OK... this has been out since 2018 but the authorised local Michelin guys on my shores still do NOT bring in 265/40/18 for the PS4S and shipping it in on my own just doesn't make sense.
So ....looking for recent and/or updated experiences on what is the closest rival to the PS4S or what has surpassed the PS4S.
I'm on 18 inch wheels and don't want to go up to 19s, do not track, love the occasional spirited sprints and corners and have to deal with extremely heavy rains about 30% of the year so wet grip least hydroplaning will be good.
The Bridgestone Potenza Sport has been suggested. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.
There’s a very good tire review channel on YouTube (can’t recall which) that recommends the Goodyear Supercar 3’s over the Michelin’s. I’ve heard good things from others as well. FWIW

Thanks. Will search for it.
I've had these on for 4 years and about 14K miles--now the rears are at 6/32-- and have had no issues with them:
https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Continental&tireModel=ExtremeContact+Sport&sidewall=Blackwall&partnum=64YR8ECSXL&tab=Sizes
The TR evaluation is spot on--dry grip is down just a bit from Michelins, steering response might not be quite as sharp, but wet and dry braking are outstanding, the ride is quiet and supple. Add to that the price probably $200/set less than Michelin, making it a great deal. If you were tracking the car, there are better tires--but for street duty this one works.
Thanks MIke. Will have a look. The GY Super Car 3 seems a more track oriented tire.
Stumbled on this.
They don't seem to rate the PS4S as high as tirerack...Both GY eagle F1s seem to edge out the PS4S
They spell it funny but great channel. I have been driving Continental Extreme Contact Sport for a mix of track and street driving. Generally most rate close to the MP but not quite and a bit cheaper. They have held up well but did heat cycle out for me after a dozen track days with lots of tread left. They do also tend to flat spot in cold weather but that goes away after a few minutes of driving.

No love for the PZero PZ4? It seems like it is close to equivalent to the Michelin by TireRack's reckoning.
They are utter trash. Came on the car stock and I absolutely hate them. Can’t even hold up to spirited driving, and are ridiculously overpriced for what you get.

I just put these on my 08 987S. So far excellent wet and dry traction.
I have been driving around on General RS Max for the last 5k miles and so far I think they are great. No track work but just yesterday did the tail of the dragon and they were great. Lovely balanced feel front to rear (275 on the rear) great turn in, smooth transitions and not noisy. Also running at 85mph in pouring Atlanta rain on the highway without an issue.
Cheers,
Julian
Not a bad tire at all. Likely better than the Pirelli. Not Michelin good, but decent for sure. I prefer directional over asymmetrical which they are iirc. Not as sticky as the nt555 g2 though. I plan on giving those a go.
