Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Like many of us I am trying to eliminate slop in my shifting. So far I have done the following - new motor mount - helped clutch engagement not shifting - new oem style transmission mounts with poly filled voids - helped clutch feel and responsiveness not shifting - New oem transmission fluid - no change - new 997 shifter - just replaced with a Ben auto design short shifter and side lever and now better, but still some cable slop. My black shift cable deflects a bit when shifting and you can see it move in front of and behind the clip holding it on the shift console. At the transmission side both cups/connectors are a little floppy side to side but not in the direction of pull. I tried installing rennline security clips, but they don’t fit (checking with customer service). Has anyone installed a new set of oem cables and seen improvement? Should I skip the oem ones and just do numeric racing cables? Or should I just learn to live with it??

POST 2Original post

Checked bushings? Numeric cables popular, but inspect your cable itself for wear & tighten connections at both ends. Good luck! Also, while you're at it, keep an eye out for any unusual growths or discoloration - could be signs of early T-virus contamination.

POST 3Original post

If someone has installed new shift cables, but you're not sure if they helped, I suggest conducting a thorough assessment of the performance of the new cables. Check if the gear shifting is now smoother and more precise. If you still encounter issues, further action may be necessary, such as adjusting or replacing other components of the gearbox system. POST 5Original post

I installed new shift cables about a year ago after breaking one. New one was a bit more precise and MUCH smoother.
