Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

They lifted the car up, and concluded (after briefly checking the suspension) that it could only be one of the differentials.

Four days later I open the garage door, go to open the drivers door with the remote and nothing, use the key and it opens, go to start the engine and nothing.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Makes you wonder the capabilites of the first two mechanical geniuses doesn't it. Your mate can be a prat though because he's a customer. My own stupid customer reputation at the OPC story goes back to last year when I took someone out for a test run and he left his golfing brolly between the passenger seat and the door. Four days later I open the garage door, go to open the drivers door with the remote and nothing, use the key and it opens, go to start the engine and nothing. Call Porsche Assist, their guy comes out, charges the battery and we couldn't work out what the problem was. I take the car to the OPC (Porsche assit bloke follows in his car)and whilst driving I notice a strange noise coming from the passenger seat. At the garage it becomes clear the umbrella had wedged up against the electric seat button so it was constantly trying to move the seat until the car battery gave up. Let this be a warning that muppetry can happen to anyone, even me. DAZ

POST 2Original post

No! Surely not, Daz! We are not worthy! From now on you shall be called Brian who is called Brian. He is too the real messiah! And I should know... I've followed a few. Follow the gourd! etc etc...

POST 3Original post

He's not the messiah, he's a very naughty boy !

POST 4Original post

Errrr, do you work for the Avon and Somerset Scamera partnership by chance? DAZ

POST 5Original post

How dare you even insinuate that i work for them... No, I dont...

POST 8Original post

My car went to the OPC twice to sort out an irritating clonking from the passenger side. They couldn't work it out. After it got back the second time, I reached under the passenger seat and pulled out a bottle of water which had been rolling around but had got caught up in some cabling. D'oh!

POST 9Original post

Anyone know how to sort out the irritating squealing and whimpering noises from the passenger seat ? Only seems to happen during hard braking and cornering and even then only when the seat is occupied

POST 11Original post

I once thought I had a problem with the steering on my Peugeot - when turning the wheel I got this strange metallic 'clink' from somewhere down below. It wasn't until after few weeks of wondering if the steering wheel was going to come off in my hands that I found the discarded Guinness can rolling about under my seat >> Edited by AJLintern on Thursday 12th June 10:18

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I don't own a Porsche, but I thought this one was just too good not to post..... A friend of mine recently bought a 996tt, which he uses as his everyday car. One morning he got in it and there was a strange, irritating "clonking" sound which seemed to come from the front suspension. It sounded quite bad so he took it to the dealers the same day. A garage mechanic took the car round the block but he had never heard the strange knocking sound and was unsure of what problem might cause it. So he proceeeded to get the chief mechanic who also had no idea what it could be, other than that it sounded "quite serious". They lifted the car up, and concluded (after briefly checking the suspension) that it could only be one of the differentials. So they agreed to leave the car for the differential to be taken out and checked. As they were walking past the car towards the office to do all the paperwork, they were still rumbling on about how strange it was and that now the diff had to come out. Meanwhile, the other mechanic had been opening the boot, lifted out two full bottles of wine and said ..." or we just take those two bottles of wine out of the boot"... Three hours wasted, nearly taken the front end of a perfectly fine car apart and all for forgetting to take out all the shopping - fecking great don't you think. I do not know who was more embarrassed.
