Suggestion

I have used shell, esso and mobil in the past with good results, and if you do less than 6000 miles per year you could happily use a semi-synthetic 10W-40 or 15W-50 and save money.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I'm still a 993 newbie but the only oil I've seen Porsche recommend is Mobil 1.

POST 2Original post

Castrol RS is the prefered oil of most of the Uk specialists, not as stupidly thin as mobil 1 but just as good= fully synth etc etc.

POST 3Original post

For anything pre 98 avoid any of the 0W weight oils. I have used shell, esso and mobil in the past with good results, and if you do less than 6000 miles per year you could happily use a semi-synthetic 10W-40 or 15W-50 and save money.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

What is the majority opinion on the best oil for my C4. Reason I ask is thet with my previous Skyline R34 (which was obviously turbo'd) this was a VERY important factor. Possibly not so with the 993 , so any views welcomed.
