I forgot to say in 1st post but when i asked the original owner about whether he had fitted tires or not, I also told him that i had the sills painted where the Factory stainless sills had corroded under warranty ......he was amazed as he had had it turned down flat by his local OPC 2 months before, where as it sailed straight through with my local Porsche approved body shop....:thumb:

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well for me anyway, let me explain  I went to a PCGB free check over night at my local OPC. They found a few items as I knew they would that needed sorting under warranty ( new water pump and new AirCon Rad) all fine so booked them in to be sorted While sitting at the reception desk i asked, now that they had basically done the 111 point check(normal cost £200) I needed to renew the warranty for another year, So can i now renew ??. "NO" they said....Why not. :?: Well my tyres didn't match, they we Michelin N1's on the front and N2's on the rear.......? I had no idea as I had only bought the car 2 months ago and had only ever checked the condition/make/type etc not the N rating. :hand: They said I needed to change the tyres for 4 matching before I renewed....Damm i thought as that was £800 or so that i didn't really want to spend just now especially as they still had reasonable tread on them (3-4mm) But wait I said an Porsche OPC centre sold this car in November 09 so they must have put the incorrect tyres on it........Not a chance i was told, they would never have done that.. unheard of, 100% point blank no chance.. :?: I left the OPC and said that i would call Porsche warranty department in the morning to see if they could help. I called the previous owner in the morning to check 100% if he had changed the tyres....no he hadn't and he had never had a copy of the 111 point check either....strange i thought ... :?: So i phone Porsche warranty and explained that I wasn't the original owner who purchased the car from an OPC... but i couldn't renew my warranty as they had fitted incorrect tyres well outside of the stipulation of Porsche warranty and could they help/advise. I had a frosty reception at 1st and the same no way, no chance and absolutely no OPC would do that 100 %.... but she agreed that she would call the OPC who sold the car last Nov and as for paperwork etc and she would investigate and come back to me....... Well to cut a very long story short......the OPC had fitted miss matching tyres :hand: ( found out by the paperwork audit Porsche GB did ) They would get back to me with a solution, when they had decided what to do as this was a 1st for Porsche GB Warranty.... So here I am waiting hopefully for a contribution to a couple of tyres or even better for them to provide a couple of N2's to match the existing tyres. Remember I am not the original purchaser from the OPC and the car has done 5.500miles since last Nov 09. But they didn't do any of that...................NO Wait for it ......................................... I had an apology ................................ They only gave me a complete new set or Pirelli............... FOC. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: Fitted yesterday So I would like to say a massive thank you to the OPC (Sutton Coldfield) who have looked after me impeccably, their customer service is the best I have ever known ( I have owned 25 new car to date) And a massive thanks to Porsche GB warranty department who even though I had a problem that they had never dealt with before treated me very professionally indeed :thumb: Tyres can be seen on Sunday morning in winsor

POST 3Original post

How many times did you crash with those incorrect N-rated tyres? Perhaps you should sue Porsche for the damage that may have been caused to your car? The sleepness nights you now have, your head filled with the terror of what MIGHT have happened? :?: :floor:

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am too upset at the moment, May be later. I am going to have a lie down now

POST 5Original post

That sounds very odd to me. I appreciate that you need to run the same type front/rear on 4WD, but it's the same make and only a minor revision - you can't even buy the older N rating sometimes. My warranty was renewed by an OPC who pointed out that I have different makes front/back (both N rated though) but said it didn't matter (but mine is only 2WD). A friend had the same make tyres on front/rear, but the tyre fitter made a mistake and didn't put N rated on the front (about a month before the renewal). So he couldn't get a warranty until N rated were put on the front (different N rating btw). Those were two different OPCs and is does seem that there's quite a difference between dealerships wrt warranty renewal. But pleased that you had a very good outcome in the end...I don't think I would have bothered to chase it all though, but shows the perseverance was well worth it! I bet that the OPC that supplied your tyres billed the one that made the original mistake though! If it was their mistake, I'm not so sure you'd have the same outcome!!

POST 6Original post

@bentley300 Congratulations! Your perseverance is to be admired. Now can you sort out peace in the Middle East and the facilities at the Delhi Commonwealth games. They should be a doddle after getting Porsche to admit they were wrong! :worship:

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I think it must depend on which dealer you go to.... which i agree is very strange especially as how stringent Porsche warranty is meant to be now days you would think they would be uniform with their claims I forgot to say in 1st post but when i asked the original owner about whether he had fitted tires or not, I also told him that i had the sills painted where the Factory stainless sills had corroded under warranty ......he was amazed as he had had it turned down flat by his local OPC 2 months before, where as it sailed straight through with my local Porsche approved body shop....:thumb: So may be theres a lesson to be learnt here... They obviously don't record failed warranty claims...... so if you get a fail at one dealer leave it a month and go to another and you might get through :?: must be worth a try.:?: Oh and yes the original suppling dealer has had to pay for the full cost of the 4 tyres ....... I asked what my OPC had charged for them and she said £1300.... :floor: :floor: So it was worth the little effort it took... IMO just booking my tickets to Gazza I have heard they need my help... :?:

POST 8Original post

Yes if you look at the list price but they would have paid less than 1/2 this. Still, taking nothing away from yoru superb result, congrats! It would seem if you want a warranty claim go to Sutton Coldfield, I keep on hearing their name pop up, 'yes' replaced under warranty, seems to roll off their tongue. :dont know:

POST 9Original post

I like a happy ending. I thought at most you would get 2 tyres.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I genuinely didn't expect to get anything at all after all I wasn't the original purchaser and the car had done 5500 miles and only 3 mm of tread left... as said a happy ending

POST 11Original post

Can you take mine in for its next service, please? Result. :thumb:

POST 12Original post

Good result, a year or so ago when 19" tyres were scarce, particularly Continentals, Porsche were giving out a few sets of tyres, just to get cars out of their workshops.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Update : I asked for the original N1 and N2 tyres back as they had 3 to 4 mm on them, as i wanted them to put on another old Porsche..... Even said it would save them disposing of them ethically as they were no use to them ? But no chance Iwas told that Porsche GB or OPC Leicester wanted them back....... A likely story :?: Some you win some you loose...

POST 14Original post

Have the tyres fitted and then tell them you've changed your mind about the warranty. :floor: :floor: :floor: And tell them you're sending two friends along with exactly the same issue. :floor: :floor: Do I not like OPC.'S :bandit:

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Popped in Today to Local OPC(as very Close to Home) as CD Changer was giving a message saying it was unavailable since having last work done 2 weeks ago at another OPC. I thought it might be a loose cable or something simple.....They looked at it straight away, which was very good of them......But no a new CD changer needed and now ordered Cost Approx. £450 ....Again under warranty. Certainly getting my moneys worth. :?: The manager did mention, That they did put it on the ramp (why for a CD issue ?) and checked the breaks, Discs and Tyres........ Gutted he couldn't sell me anything .....:floor:
