I will taking it back in Jan to check before warranty runs out but it is not uncommon and as previously pointed out the ultra thinMobil 1 gets thru quite easily....

Checked on this and Porsche now grade them `1-5 in terms of leak severity - and will only replace RMS if on 3-5 of their scale.

Hartech did the job so i am sure he would have used a Porsche seal.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hi any obvious signs for RMS problem emerging? what should one look out for?

POST 2Original post

Drips of oil on the garage floor. Until then pretty harmless (and even then usually just a warning).

POST 3Original post

When it looks like this, then it is leaking, Usually get a drip from the bolt arrowed.

POST 4Original post

Have a look at this thread for options http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=57635 Interesting reading

POST 5Original post

I dont think you should worry about it, mine was done just over a year ago and i see a slight leak again. I dident even have to top up any oil in 3000 miles, it is just a fact of life

POST 7Original post

Hartech put a new rms in around july last year.

POST 8Original post

I thought it sorted the problem once and for all , but you say you have a leak again , isn't that covered by warranty :?:

POST 9Original post

Should be covered by the 2-year Porsche parts warranty. Labour & materials. (Unless they have changed it, of course!)

POST 10Original post

I don't use 0w oils anymore which can get past the RMS way too easily.

POST 11Original post

Hartech did the job so i am sure he would have used a Porsche seal.

POST 12Original post

I have a 996 facelift 3.6 with a replcement engine still uner Porsche warranty. I noticed from last Porsche service the RMS has a 'slight weep'. Checked on this and Porsche now grade them `1-5 in terms of leak severity - and will only replace RMS if on 3-5 of their scale. I will taking it back in Jan to check before warranty runs out but it is not uncommon and as previously pointed out the ultra thinMobil 1 gets thru quite easily....

POST 13Original post

I would be making sure it was a 4 by Jan........ :thumb: If not pay the £920 to extend the warranty for another year
