Picked up an 09 Boxster S.
Loads of stupid questions to follow.
Have pity on a poor bimmer guy.
Maybe even a double dose of pity for the guy with an XJ-S up on blocks…. Congrats on the Boxster. I have a 987.2 base and am happy with the dark blue metallic—but I really wanted that gorgeous blue you have!

Sorry.
No pity for anyone who has the 987 secret sauce in their garage. (Bonus points for anyone with a "Base". Brilliant value equation)
My pity is saved for those that don't.
By the way, congrats!

Gorgeous, love the blue! Congrats on the car! Check out my YouTube, I do all the basic maintenance for my car, hope you check it out and pick some stuff up! Yours is a 987.2 so I’m sure there are a lot of differences, but I’m sure there’s a lot in common too. What kind of options did yours come with?
Congratulations! My favorite color of Porsche Blue.

So every fluid machine (my cousin has a five thousand dollar Mahle) applied across every brand and model of vehicle ever made is a device purchased and used by service departments as a mechanism to ruin transmissions with purpose, increase profits and create future transmission failures? I can't see that or the notion that replacement of fluids completely at one time has a derogatory affect on the system by itself.
If a dealer wants to take advantage of you they can just grab you for a five hundred dollar battery without the equipment investment.
You can flush and replace transmission fluid on newer transmissions without any wear, but on older transmissions with a lot of years and miles on them? Don’t do it! I’m not saying it’s an intentional scam where the machines are created for the sole purpose of destroying cars, but that’s kinda what happens. I’ve talked to multiple mechanics who agree with me on this. Drain and replace, don’t flush!

. My dad was the lead mechanic, I became one and still have ties. The report I'm getting (one from a Toyota gilded mechanic) is the real issue is the lack of technicians with fundamental skills being assigned work they fail to accomplish with the dealership hoping the chief mechanic will be chief babysitter / corrector. That's why myself I look for skill, honor and integrity at the shop and when I find that I am will to pay the asking wage. I'm sure running one of these machines works best with knowhow and finesse, I'm equally sure most dealerships hire and rehire mechanics like changing light bulbs, especially in the current environment.
