Suspected cause

I suspect maybe they’re tying to insulate that space for some reason, as there should be an air conditioning vent in there, originally meant to cool the PCM disc changer.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hey everyone, Currently trying to purchase my first Cayman...actually it will by my first Porsche ever. I've been a fan of the Cayman since 987 generation came out. Unfortunately I was never in a position to purchase until now. No matter what I buy, I'm planning to have a PPI done. I'm trying to find an S with a manual. Recently one came up a local dealer to my surprise. Unfortunately it has whole bunch of ugly that I can fix. It's an '07 S with 70k miles, for options it has 19" Carrera S wheels, Preferred Package, and the PSE exhaust. As a whole, I prefer my cars mostly stock. I'm good with a different wheel, window tine and exhaust (except this car shouldn't need an exhaust). The ugly is all cosmetic...this is ugly in my opinion and not meant to inflame anyone. I just prefer a cleaner look to my eye. First to go are the stripes and Porsche down the side. Next, I'd be swapping out the tail lights for oem and the side marker lights for clears. I'd prefer to not have the Cayman R wing either. It's not an R, so I'd rather only have the factory wing in place. This would mean filling holes and repainting I'm sure. (not sure if it's worth the effort). Has anyone gone back to stock? What's everyone's opinion here? Fix the Cayman S script on the back and remove the Porsche above it. I don't believe that's factory. I'm ok with Black, just prefer the original layout. Next up is wheels. I actually like these wheels. Are the factory wheel? I don't believe these are the 19" Carrera S wheels that were bought as an option. I'm having a tough time identifying what those wheels looked like in 07. If they're the lobster claw wheels, then I'm good. It's the one factory wheel I'm not crazy about. In the picture that has the foil tape...any idea what for? I can't imagine that's factory. Fog lights...I'd prefer to go back to oem. From the video Thanks in advance...if this car doesn't work out, I'm hope to find one soon that does that I can share with all of you.

POST 2Original post

They look like factory Carrera S wheels painted black. Let me know if you will be selling them!

POST 3Original post

Agree 100% If you still have the motor and electronics for raising and lowering the stock one. Yeah, that Cayman S is way too high. Nice wheels. I think they were an option. Also good idea.

POST 4Original post

1- no to the stripes 2- the wing is okay. I’m not a fan of the stock wing but it looks like you’ll have both. That R wing is drilled into the hatch and from the pic the oem is still there.. 3- no logo.. use dental floss, it comes right off then use adhesive remover..easy fix 4- fog lights, stock is better 5- wheels look great I’d buy a set of H&R springs and lower that it would look real nice and aggressive

POST 5Original post

Thanks everyone. Any idea what the sound deadening material would be for in the last picture?

POST 6Original post

If you are painting the rear spoiler I personally would also paint the vent grills just in front of the rear wheels body color.

POST 7Original post

I think (but not 100% sure) the wheels are from the later 981 Cayman. They are definitely Porsche wheels and look great on the car. As for the other items, I agree with going back to stock as much as possible. The rear wing you may be stuck with unless you want to fill the holes and repaint. It's not awful.

POST 8Original post

So what you are looking for is something like this?

POST 9Original post

We can probably only speculate without taking to whoever did that. I suspect maybe they’re tying to insulate that space for some reason, as there should be an air conditioning vent in there, originally meant to cool the PCM disc changer.

POST 10Original post

Yes sir. At this point I just think there's a bit more work that needs to be done thanI want to get into for the by price. The more I add up everything, the more think I should just continue the search.

POST 11Original post

Those wheels were an option for the 987.2 cayman 2009 Porsche Cayman S - ~30,600 Miles, 2 Owners, 6-Speed Manual, Southern-Kept 987.2 This 2009 Porsche Cayman S is for sale on Cars & Bids! Auction ends August 19 2021. carsandbids.com

POST 12Original post

Watching that 09 on carsandbids.com but I think it's going to clearly go for more than my budget.

POST 13Original post

Bidding sites can make you believe that you have to up your budget to get what you want. There are some BARGAINS at the harder to find used inventory at dealerships that SEEM to be closer to KBB valuation. Just takes a more tenacious effort to find them. Not every Porsche for sale is for sale by someone Porsche savvy. Sent from my SM-G988U using Tapatalk

POST 14Original post

But generally speaking people that own are in the know… and these cars are on the rise… 06-08 CS’s will be 30k plus… what a Lot of people don’t realize is a motor rebuild is 15-25k depending on how far it’s taken and it can shift people’s thinking… a budget is a budget, I get it, but when things go really wrong it can be a shock… I’ve seen it.. choose wisely

POST 15Original post

This is on my mind and why I'm trying to also find one with good service history.

POST 16Original post

This is what I remember seeing for prices as well. I've just now gotten serious, tracking the sales prices on some auction sites and scouring the webs and forums. As the 987 prices creep up, I start to scratch my head and say why not up the budget and go for a 981. Granted still risk there as well. I just feel the 987 is a better buy with prices bottomed and now on the rise. I'm not looking to make money. I want a Porsche to enjoy driving. The car in my original post is going for $28k.

POST 17Original post

28k seems in-line if it’s a quality ride. Ther is a super nice 06 CS on pcar but I’m guessing it’ll go higher than it currently is

POST 18Original post

Sorry for my ignorance, what is pcar? Do you have a link? Nevermind...google is my friend. Found it.

POST 20Original post

I've been following Cars and Bids as well. It's definitely built on the same framework as PCAR. At least it appears that way.

POST 21Original post

I changed my rear badge just recently. My Boxster logo was pretty worn with some unpainted corners so I decided to change it to this, looks more modern and clean to my eye.

POST 22Original post

I agree I’m not a fan of the stripes and Porsche logos on the sides, but some people love em. Looks very 80’s to me.

POST 23Original post

give the LED spars a shot before scrapping them. I realize beauty is in the eye of the beholder and the stock look is always preferable. BUT… the stock fog lights are trash and the 987.1 does NOT have daytime running lights, so I consider my LED spars a safety feature as much as anything. (I’m talking about the ones specifically made for the car, not some random e-bay junk). if you don’t like them, they can be put back to stock in 30 minutes or so with basically no tools by a beginner.

POST 24Original post

I've given some thought to a discrete "987" on the sides of the car behind the front wheel openings.. but haven't moved on it yet since I haven't seen the numbers pre-made in Porsche font. By discrete - mebbe 2" tall at most, and perhaps light gray against my Carrara white. No stripes, no background, just the numbers.

POST 25Original post

For the record, ‘05 Boxsters after a certain engine number have the same IMS as the 06 and later cars. Excluding ‘05s (I have an S that has the larger, internal bearing) there is no reason to exclude them from a search for a “later” Boxster.

POST 26Original post

Yup, you’d have to look at the IMS or hope the info on engine number is accurate but let’s call it 05 1/2 to 08 has the better non-serviceable bearing.. 911/cayman included

POST 27Original post

Nice car and nice plate. Is it not adhesive replica plate? Because I looking some .
