Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that suspect a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suspected cause
If you're feeling it through the steering wheel (is that the wheel you're referring to in the post?) then it's most likely a front end issue.
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
I had shimmy through the steering wheel at motorway speeds but after changing all four tyres and having a basic geo check & adjustment mine's steady as a rock now.
Leading evidence: 'front end issue' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'front end issue' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check & adjustment mine's steady as a rock now' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
interesting one bobsan and could be easily overlooked

Suggestion
The fronts should be removed and the balance checked VERY carefully, along with the the alloys for running true.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

this has been like this since bought the car a few weeks back. i have since bought 2 new rear tyres balanced all tyres and also done a wheel alignment. i thought this would have solved this but still over 70mph (on private roads) i have a c4 with a factory fitted gt3 areo kit on with 19" porche wheels. when looking at the spoiler it looks like it vibrates slightly could this cause it?
any answers would be appreciated! rob
If you're feeling it through the steering wheel (is that the wheel you're referring to in the post?) then it's most likely a front end issue. Through the seat would typically indicate a rear issue.
If you find the front end is going light at speed and steering becomes vague then it's possible the rear ride height is low (springs compress with age) sticking the nose in the air which will undermine the aerodynamics. Rarer for C4s as they're heavier in the nose in the first place but still possible.
Other possibilities are drive shafts, track rod ends and bushes. Many geos won't check any of this.

As James says, when you say wheel are you meaning steering wheel?
Can't see the pic in real detail but they dont look like genuine Porsche wheels but aftermarket. Most if not all say the 996 rides very badly on 19" rims which it was not designed for.
The 996 steering set-up is still one of the best ever fitted to a 911 with superb feedback(good or bad).
The fronts should be removed and the balance checked VERY carefully, along with the the alloys for running true.
Even a 5g imbalance on the front can be noticed/felt.
I would say(based on experience) that most mainstream tyre companies dont get 911 wheel balancing correct.
thanks for the replies. dont think its disc warp
its not vibrating on braking just on high speeds.
i only bought rear tyres due to them needed replacing. it just doesnt feel set up correctly at all. ive had it serviced at strasse porsche specialist in leeds. you think i should shell out for full geo set up? how much is it ? cheers

You've bought new rears but don't mention how old/worn the fronts are.
Given that it's good practice anyway to change all four on the C4 imo it might be worth doing that first.

^what he say's, totally correct plus I've gotten better result's by not using locking wheel nuts which are 1.4g's heavier than a reg wheel bolt. Also have to say that while my 18's where being refurbed I had 19's fitted, with horrible handling effect, all wobbly, was a joy to get back to 18's.
The wheel nut problem is an interesting one Bobsan and could be easily overlooked. As you say as regards the 19' wheels- Yet another example of why it's best to stick to Porsche recommendations.
