I know that most of your highways tend to be concrete as opposed to tarmac, and that may be an issue if you're running 19s and stock dampers.

The type of seat in your car will make a difference as will your selection of PASM; the upgraded seats allow for multiple positions (comfort and aggressive postures) and opting for the comfort setting on PASM should make for a smooth ride.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I'm interested in hearing about how the Cayman works as a distance driver. Most of the trips in this part of the world are at least a 100 to 150 miles with greater distances needed to go to Aspen, Denver or Scottsdale. Is the Cayman a road car. By that I mean is it comfortable over long distances, has good 'legs' to cover lots of miles without frequent stops for fuel and driver renewal, can you relax while enjoying its intensity? It seems to be perfect as an urban sports car but I'm looking forward to hearing about its other attributes.

POST 2Original post

Yeah, I would like to know too from others. As for me, I think Cayman will do just fine. I get used to drive a Jeep with 37' tires (Wrangler) every year from DE to Moab Utah. I hope one day I can drive a Cayman across the country with my son.

POST 3Original post

SF, I think the answer here depends on the physical size of the driver. Seems like at 6'0 you're ok, at 6'2 it's borderline and at 6'4 you don't really fit anymore. The Carrerais probablya better long distance driver, but nothing beats the C3 for that!Mine's at 145k!

POST 4Original post

I'm hoping that all of our Caymans aren't garage queens. This seems like a driving group so I expect some interesting feedback as they venture away from home.

POST 5Original post

I'm 6'4, but with short legs (36-32 levis). I fit like most 6'2 people, borderline. I can get in a comfortable postion for aggressive driving, but I'm worried about long drives. But if it's at all tolerable I'm going to drive it all the way accross I-10 to visit my dad in Florida and friends in Louisiana. I gotta drivehis Ford GT he'll let me have more fun if I show up in my own new p-car.

POST 6Original post

Santa Fe, I find it very comfortable as a long distance car as long as the road surface isn't too bad. I know that most of your highways tend to be concrete as opposed to tarmac, and that may be an issue if you're running 19s and stock dampers. If you are planning on lots of long trips I would very seriously consider PASM and 18' wheels for the extra ride comfort. If it is just one-off trips, or the roads you take are generally nice smooth tarmac, then go with 19s. As for range, on a 70mph gentle cruise on the highway I have repeatedly seen 30mpg. Range is well over 300 miles. With mixed driving thrown in, a good 280-290 miles is easily achievble. To me, that's pretty good for the size of the tank. I use my car every single day, and after only 2 days in a 525 Sport I could not wait to get back in it. It makes every single journey a real please. The real problem is finding a road that allows the you to really stretch the engine and delve into it's full potential. Size-wize, I struggle to see the problem. I am 6' and the seat has a good 4 inches of travel to go. With the seat all the way back I can't depress the clutch or accelerator all the way. The seat back does feel upright, but it actually feels really good, and very comfy. There is several inches between the wheel and my knee. it just all feels perfect. Does everyone know the wheel moves up, down and in and out? Great car Jack

POST 7Original post

OK the weekend is coming up, weather looks pretty good in most places, lets get out there and take a trip and show the world your new Caymans and discover its road qualities or lack thereof.

POST 8Original post

Santa Fe, I have very little data as I have only test driven the Cayman but it almost here! I intend to drive it about 200 miles with my wive on board then drop her off and play in and around the Blue Ridge mountains. I have agonized over my selection of the Carrera S wheels and the standard suspension. I am sticking with that combination which I feel is about the same "harshness" as in my M3. We spent almost two weeks last year driving around beautiful New Mexico including Santa Fe, Taos and that wonderful loop up to Angel Fire. I feel that 200 miles is not going to be a problem unless all of the roads are rough. Another point to consider is the engine noise. It might be a problem after a few hundred miles. Let's hear from people with real experience! Ruby

POST 9Original post

Ruby, that is a nice drive that you describe. I'm going there when I get the Cayman. It is 250 mile round trip lunch run for us locals. Like you I hope we get some good hands-on feedback. Afterall one helpful member researched the Caymans toilet paper carrying capacity question. I know hydcman is on a long trip butI guess he didn't bring a laptop.

POST 10Original post

Santa Fe, when you take that drive be sure to stop by the Viet Nam Memorial, just outside of Angel Fire, if you haven't been there already. We found it extremely moving.

POST 11Original post

Just came back from a 3.5 hour non-stop drive in the car. Adaptive sports seats really good - expensive but worth it IMHO. Sports Chrono useful because it meant I could vary the position of my foot on the throttle for the same speed, by turning sport on or off.

POST 12Original post

willr, thanks. How did you find noise, comfort and range?

POST 13Original post

Noise - as loud or as quiet as you want! Shift up early and it's really quiet, unless you turn the stereo up! Comfort - with those seats, better than any previous cars. I always select quite an upgright driving position - lumbar support essential. Range - depends, but it was telling me about 360 miles today.

POST 14Original post

So far we have put 1500 miles on in 5 days. There are only compliments on how comfortable the seats (Sport Seats) are for both my wife and I. I could drive all day with not problems. The car is not loud on the inside with the windows up, and just right with them down. Another 150 or so tomorrow and then I will make up the rest of the 2k break in by Fri so the real fun can begin.

POST 15Original post

I am taking the car on a 1k mile trip this weekend and expect the drive(s) to be very comfortable. I am 6'3 and fit comfortably in the car. The type of seat in your car will make a difference as will your selection of PASM; the upgraded seats allow for multiple positions (comfort and aggressive postures) and opting for the comfort setting on PASM should make for a smooth ride. Noise won't be an issue. The Bose stereo (which I've configured to 'high surround') provides very goo d accoustics. I also find the car to be very good in heavy rain and wet roads. It's well balanced with good vision and the wipers (with sensors) results in very good vision during inclement weather. For those leaving or considering an M3, my wife noted as both a passenger and driver that the Cayman was very comfortable; considerably more so than my M3.
