That's why in F1 cars, they can adjust the limited-slip lockup factor on-board to meet the changing conditions.
Leading evidence: 'Adjust limited-slip lockup factor' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust limited-slip lockup factor' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. Maybe the Elise would be slower if they jusy slapped on an LSD without adjusting the suspension, but I believe it would be faster with LSD and a tuned suspension...

and I hate to watch the UK TOP GEAR review on the car, the guy is soooooo negative to begin with....I turn the volume down everytime I see it.....just to see the car running fast....!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hola amigos, assumming the Cayman has this option, would it make any difference in every day driving for most of us? (I am no track guy, for now). I see it on several forums many critizing the lack of as well as the "held back" HPs, so I ask myself, if it had LSD, would it make the cayman noticeable better (faster) for me? .... COCO
Crazyfast, correct, I saw the wheel smokin but I dont think Ill ever get that hard on the car on every day driving or even if ever on a track. Other than enjoying the great handling, high revs (sound) and quick acceleration, I still dont see how LSD would make the difference to me on the every day. Maybe that is why P decided, as well as keeping it below the
911
, not to offer LSD (for the rest of us, non-track crowd?) I could have bought the
carrera
but the new Cayman got my attention 1) its a new P and 2) the looks!!! Also doing numbers you are getting (and like someone said) getting 90% the performance of a
911
carrera
at 75% of the cost. No brainer....COCO

Not that LSD wouldn't make it better, but has anyone wondered how, without LSD, it out performs (objective track times) on Top Gear, all those cars that have LSD. Would I like it? Yes. Do I marvel at the fact that even without LSD it out performsmore powerful cars that have LSD on the track? Yes. While I'm at it how many of you armchair racers are going to approach the limits of the Cayman in the first place. I would hazard a guess, not many. Those poseur's among us may be better suited to purusing the aerodynamic wing advertisements in Sport Compact Car. Better yet how about buckling up in the armchair with your 3 point harness and activating the latest Grand Theft Auto video.
Hmmm, I still don't know how they got so much inside wheel spin when ABD and PSM is supposed to lock down the spinning wheel. Even with PSM switched off, ABD should be able to abate the wheel spin. The only thing I can think of is that they have been doing many hot lapsandoverheated the brakes automatically disabling ABD.
To answer your question, no, I don't think it would make a difference unless you track the car. LSD also has it's drawbacks for daily driving. Clutch chatter, inside wheel dragging on slow tight turns, oversteer (i.e. in the wet) when too much power is applied or understeer when you have too much rear traction. That's why in F1 cars, they can adjust the limited-slip lockup factor on-board to meet the changing conditions. Yes, I would want an LSD, but it's not available. ABD is not a bad substitute. The major disadvantage isit uses the rear brakes and can overheat causing ABD to be disable.
Btw, noBoxster, Cayman,
Carrera
in the US can be order with LSD.

The short answer is NO. You don't need[/quote] LSD for street driving or for DE enjoyment up to (maybe) the advanced run groups. For the street, I'd rather have PSM than LSD & that's a no brainer. PSM can do things to prevent an accident that no human can. That said, if LSD were an option, I'd get it. Ignore the LSD static from others - it's Cayman envy.

Ironically, the vast majority of those on other P boards whining about no LSD in the Cayman don't have it on their P cars.

For whatever it is worth, a recent Lotus Elise track evaluation at VIR in some (?)magazine saidLSD's were not available in the first years US model. After requests from autocrossers it was made available for the 2006 model year. The opinionexpressed in the article was that the LSD diminished track performance while admitting that it could be an asset for autocrossing.
I find that rather curious. All serious racecars that I know of use LSD's. I can't imagine why the Elise wouldn't benefit from one too. LSD's do cause more understeer which can and should be compensated for by suspension tuning (especially swaybar settings). Maybe the Elise would be slower if they jusy slapped on an LSD without adjusting the suspension, but I believe it would be faster with LSD and a tuned suspension...
To answer the initial thread question - no, you won't miss the LSD if you drive reasonably on the street. If you drive on very curvy roads and drive aggressively, the LSD is a big advantage (as well as on a track). But, you won't miss it if you're not breaking the law on the street. One exception - LSD can be a big help in the snow or other low-grip surface in terms of getting underway...
