The best cars I’ve owned have been the ones I’ve wanted to use the most, not the ones that I’ve cleaned the most.

I also used a thread on Rennlist which I can't find now where someone went to a centre (in the US I believe) that specialised in PTS and they had all the colour samples.

The best thing is using actual photos of real life cars but even that isn't perfect, which is why I understand you are trying to see some with your own eyes.

Hi there I need to choose a colour for an upcoming build slot for a GT3 and I’ve narrowed it down to the following :
Amethyst Metallic
Dark Olive Metallic
Oak Green Metallic
Forest Green Metallic
I’m really struggling as the images of each individual colour can look so different in different OL images / Videos.
I’ve had paint downs made but again, it’s very difficult to imagine a whole car from this.
Basically, going round in circles
I was wondering that if anyone in the East Midlands has a 911 in any of these colours, if they’d be willing to let me very briefly see their car - if so please can you DM me - thanks
Amethyst:
Dark Olive
Oak Green
Forest Green
Edited by RSVP911 on Sunday 8th May 09:32
'Dark Olive' all day long for me.
Wanted me 992 GTS Targa in it, but unfortunately there were no PTS slots available without incurring a significant delay. Will probably look to get a gen 2 car in this colour.
Some great colours. No duds. Unfortunately your images show the cars in different types of light so hard to give a pov.
Do you have the swatches (or whatever they’re called) next to each other in the same light? Ideally in a couple of different types.
Here are three - first in shade, last two are in light - however they don’t really look like this in reality - hence my issues with OL images / needing to see in the metal
Order left to right :
Amethyst / Dark Olive Metallic / Oak Green Metallic/ Forest Green Metallic

Still can’t understand why the entire front number is not painted? rather than a slab of plastic.
Agree - this is why, whatever colour I go, I’m going dark as you will hopefully “lose” some of the plastic

Just get the plastic painted body colour - simple.

Sure, but
1. why is it not like that by default
2. why do such a small % of owners opt for it?
got to be Dark Olive, however, i have Gone Oak Metallic green on my impending Taycan GTS
My 992 GT3 i went Nogaro Blue which works really well and is virtually the same as Club Blu
I think dark olive will work with the wing on a GT3 the rest. for me, are reserved for a Touring

Really not sure, but it’s definitely one of the darker ones .Owner specked it so it matches one of his Hypercars.
I am sure if you phoned Hatfield they would tell you colour.

Having spent some time with an Oak green spyder this week I can confirm that it looks f’ing stunning in all lights.
Hi chap, thanks. I really like my Oak Green swatch when it looks “grey with a slight green tone” but in certain lights it can look “overly” green - is it properly green in the metal ? Thanks

Congrats on securing a PTS GT3 allocation.
Oak green one of my favourite Porsche colours and what I'd choose on a 992GT3 Touring.
I've assumed you're getting a winged GT3 and in which case I'd plump for Amethyst Metallic. Its truly stunning in all lights.
There is a guy on Rennlist who posted pics of his GT3 in Amethyst. Trouble is I'm too lazy to find this thread but when I do I'll post a link.

I wouldn't take any fashion advice from JC as he seems to be limited to Black only.

Quick question on PTS. I just spec'd my Turbo S and was told PTS is not available. So is PTS very much model specific, or dealership specific?
At the minute it’s anyones guess. I read one post on the spyder FB group about a dealer making PTS mandatory for someone to order.
Lots of things available/ not available - PCCB’s / stereo upgrades etc… all down to various reasons given. BREXIT/ War/ Covid
Pts usually adds time to cars so perhaps there’s a scheduling and capacity decision that makes it unavailable for TTS

What happened to the other thread from February? Thought you'd picked a colour..
No not yet - still hasn’t locked - this thread started out as a plea to find anyone with a physical car in any of the colours on the short list that I could see in real life, rather than a “which colour do you like” thread. However, it seems to have turned into the later, which is great - always nice to hear what people think
My Forest Green GT3 Touring has just arrived but I'm afraid it would be a bit hard for you to view as I am in New Zealand. I have been trying to get some good photos of it but the colour is very hard to capture, I will probably need to get a pro to take some.
I think you should definitely not get Forest Green though, so then less people have it.
In all seriousness it is an amazing colour and I am very happy with it. There are a number of resources online now which are helpful but I don't think they really capture colours properly, I have a Gentian Blue, Adventurine Green and Forest Green vehicle now and they don't really look like most websites show. The best thing is using actual photos of real life cars but even that isn't perfect, which is why I understand you are trying to see some with your own eyes. When researching myself (I spent a lot of time on this) I used Instagram a lot which you can use to search for people who have hashtagged with the colour options. I also used a thread on Rennlist which I can't find now where someone went to a centre (in the US I believe) that specialised in PTS and they had all the colour samples. The person photographed a number of options side by side including a lot of the greens, that helped a lot.
In the end for me I chose Forest because it is the most true green, leaning to a smidge of blue-green. Oak Green is more of a golden hued green and Olive a black hued green. I also didn't want to do Oak because it is quite on trend now and I try and avoid that. In general green is on trend but that's what I wanted so oh well.

all the PTS colours are now viewable in the UK configurator and the images will show the actual colour (unlike before when it just turned it green).
If I select PTS it just turns the car black? I can't find any PTS options other than the tick box to select the option, this is for a GT3 Touring.
I was also told this week that ceramics should be available from July but no PTS or EM leather interior at the moment. I supposedly have an August build.
Anyone else heard similar?

Doesn’t on the 911 for me either, does on the 718 though oddly.

This is my car. This green is called Underberg Green, solid paint. As people say, in different light it looks very different. This colour falls somewhere inbetween British Racing Green and Brewster Green. It was my choice without ever seeing one in the metal and I'm really pleased with it. And I have never seen another in the UK yet. But picking a colour is very personal and subjective. The OP wants a metallic I think, so maybe not for him.

I had Pastel on 991.2 Targa, it’s a fair bit lighter in real than the Pics. Think Gulf Or Signal Orange look better IMO.

No option on UK 911 PTS configurator for me either. Panemera and Cayman PTS renderings work though.
Glass of wine, take away dinner and a screen casting session to the big telly to look at PTS colours that I thought I’d already decided on. That’s my evening sorted.
Personally, if I was choosing any colour for a car, That I intended to use and enjoy - PTS or standard - I would want a colour that looked good when dirty, or at least with a patina of use.
Some of these colours look vivid under showroom lighting, or, in “look I’ve just had my car detailed” pics, but unless it’s going to be a ‘garage queen’, medium tone colours that don’t reflect back too much depth, are a safer bet. Otherwise every finger mark, dust scuff, mud splash, surface squirl….. shows through.
I’ve done my time with black, navy blue and dark green metallics, to know the frustration. The best cars I’ve owned have been the ones I’ve wanted to use the most, not the ones that I’ve cleaned the most.
Porsche really need to change the name of these paints. They are not really paint to sample at all. Paint to sample is what they call paint to sample plus where you can take in your favourite bathroom tile etc and they will match it. This option should just be called extended paint range or something similar as BMW and MB do with Individual and Designo. There is nothing sample about it.

But the colours have been derived from that PTS process. Each one came from someone’s favourite bathroom tile (or whatever), therefore as a library name PTS seems perfectly apt and from a marketing POV the term has a far more cachet than ‘extended range’
Extended range! Lol.

What makes you say the colours came from someone’s bathroom tiles/wife’s underwear/sunset on the eve of their wedding/your baby’s first poo etc Julian ?
My understanding is the same as Craig’s, that being they’re nothing more than period colours that Porsche have painted cars before, but no longer offered as part of their “standard” range. Rather they’ve made them available by “special request” and at a premium ...

well i was always under the impression that is how they came to be, but I stand corrected. Thanks for clarifying. best regards
Nogaro blue is a relatively new addition to the PTS list. It was put through the validation process at the request of a customer a couple of years ago.
This is my understanding of PTS. Someone asks for a new colour “to sample”, they pay for Porsche to do the validation of the colour, if it’s a success it gets added to the PTS list and made available to anyone that is prepared to pay for (and wait for) PTS.

indeedy. My understanding too, however it seems this PTS range is perhaps more of a release of historic colours and not solely as a result of that bespoke process.

I have just asked someone that I know who works in the management at Porsche Germany and they said that the paint to sample paints are either heritage colours, colours they know the can charge more for or paint to sample plus colours that customers have allowed to be rolled out in the programme. You get asked when they match a paint to your tiles or your wives knickers etc what you want to call it and whether you want it to be available to others. If you agree to it being available to others you get a small royalty each time someone buys it. They are not really paint to sample at all as I said and at best they are paint to someone else’s sample

Also, aren't some of the colours other manufacturers have created. I'm sure a few in the Porsche PTS palette are BMW colours?

Yes they are but they will have been paint to sample plus first ie I want the Porsche the same colour as my M3 etc.
I do wonder what the most bizarre item is that they have ever been given to paint match to
apparently you can do leather to sample too

Ah ok, that makes sense.
The brown ones are a bit suspect, one of them could be someones skidmark that he's getting royalties for! LOL
Nogaro blue is an Audi colour, first used on the RS 2 iirc.
It was subsequently requested/used on a 993 GT2 and renamed Audi GT blue by Porsche :

LOL - This line cracked me up...
Also, aren't some of the colours other manufacturers have created. I'm sure a few in the Porsche PTS palette are BMW colours?
And this didn’t ?
“What makes you say the colours came from someone’s bathroom tiles/wife’s underwear/sunset on the eve of their wedding/your baby’s first poo etc”

From what I’ve seen the
majority
though I grant you, not all, are the former.
