I took delivery of mine without the Sat Nav Reader Unit and waited for 3 months whilst the supplying dealer attempted to get it fixed or replaced with a secondhand one.

I got £1500 back , spent £100 on having a CD storage box fitted in the hole, bought a Tom Tom and used most of the the balance to pay for 4 new tyres.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well 3 months in to my Porsche ownership and I've got my first problem...... :nooo:
Jumped in the car last night and when I turned the igition on the PCM displayed "SYSTEM ERROR: NAVIAGATION SYSTEM NOT AVAILABLE" with the comfirm command also being highlighted. I pressed confirm and everything else worked ok - main, audio, sound, tel, mail, info & trip.
I tried to run the navi with the CD in and out of the system but it still displayed "navigation system not available" at the bottom of the screen. It also displayed "map display not available" when I pressed the map button.
I've tried using the original 2002 Map CD's that came with the car as well as the 2008 Map CD's I've bought (non-original) which had been working ok but neither worked. It still plays single music CD's through the system so the drive works ok.
Anyone else had this issue or can offer any suggestion to try and solve it? :?

Re: pcm/ sat nav
Thanks for the suggestion. Do you mean one of the radio fuses in the fuse box (row B - fuse 2 or row E - fuse 1) or is there an in-line fuse somewhere?
Strange beasts these Porsche's........
I've been working away all week and jumped in the car last night after getting back and guess what......... the sat nav was working again! My grin was even bigger than normal when I arrived back and parked up again.
I've just bought my first 996 & found the same problem. The garage removed the nav unit & sent it away to have the lazer replaced.
the radio seems to be the only thing working now, & not even reading cd's. am i right in thinking the unit needs the navigation unit fitted before it will see the autochanger too?
Cheers
I'll be very surprised if they manage to get the laser replaced.

New items are nearly £2k or c£1500 for an exchange at an OPC so dealers will always try to fix one or find one more cheaply.
I'd give it a month or so and then press for either a new one or demand a chunk of money back.

I had this problem a few weeks back -

Do the following:
1- Change the fuse at the back of the PCM (Unit needs to be removed)
2- Carry out the reset process indicated in this topic and the above links
3- check the fiber to make sure they have not been bent or are dirty (are are specialist tools available that can do a "loopback test"
4- Disconnect any handsfree/bluetooth/parrat device that may be connected.
Also to check:
-IF you press confirm, is the sat-nav still operational?
- Doing a "calibration reset" or "tyre change" under the setup options.. does that make a difference?
- Are you getting any of the other errors since (amp error etc)
- Was this following an upgrade etc?
Also, speak to JZM who should be able to help...
