Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Did also a dumb thing - after checking the code I tried to open the coolant cap to see the coolant level - it shoot out around 20ml of warm fluid without me even opening it all the way, so I immediately closed it.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi guys, I have a problem. My 987.1S threw a CEL on me on my way back from a road trip. Last few weeks I had a coolant indicator failure happen to me a few times for a moment or two, it happened yesterday during the ride, then the CEL light came on. First I had the coolant gauge jump on and off a few times in a row with the characteristic warning beep, and after 15 minutes it finally settled on 175, but the CEL stayed on - attached picture. Thought the CEL is due to one of the catalytic sensors and the coolant indicator failure is a separate problem (sensor needs replacement?), but then it is a 2007 model and has everything stock. The car was warmed up well, after several long acceleration pulls but no abuse during the drive. After the road trip I parked it in the garage, thought that maybe it needs to cool down over night, but today morning I turn it on and the CEL is still on. Mechanically the car is sound, CEL was not associated with any changes in the cars behavior (sound/acceleration). Oil level is perfect. Any recommendations on what to do next ? I've heard that Autozone can read codes on these cars, is this right? I will appreciate any comments, Thanks.

POST 2Original post

Yes, start with Autozone or other big chain auto parts store and pull the code for the CEL. On my 2007, the code was P1486 and due to the gas cap. There is a rubber seal that deteriorates over time.

POST 3Original post

I drove to Autozone - the code is P3081. I started to read about it and I understand it is related to the coolant. I noticed the radiators working hard today, turning on continuously after the car is standing still without driving. Did also a dumb thing - after checking the code I tried to open the coolant cap to see the coolant level - it shoot out around 20ml of warm fluid without me even opening it all the way, so I immediately closed it. Lesson learned. I see someone writing on the forum that when you start the car and it is running rich it is because the sensor isn't working and the computer thinks I am starting in cold weather so it richens the starting mix - I though that after starting rpm around 1300 for a moment and back to 700 is normal, now I am worried. What do you think?
