as I would get the same colour and likely spec it exactly the same as my current car but just add a couple of extras to it mine is missing and maybe change the hood colour .

I initially thought the same and nope I dont want to own one either but only for the soundtrack, but there is no getting away from it will be the new model ,sadly its the future , its quicker , more economical and with a turbo much more tuneable so actually has great potential and as I posted in the other 718 thread most Porsche buyers are not petrol heads and this for a 4pot flat 4 turbo doesnt actually sound that bad although I suspect the driver is getting everything out of it !!

The Spyder is a pretty safe bet in terms of depreciation and is most likely the last ever convertible na flat6!

Anyway Speaking with the dealer he has offered me a slot on a new GTS which I am half considering , the appeal is I can then spec it how I want it , I have a 981 Boxster 3.4S that I bought used last year ,which is highly specced but has a couple of extras that ordering new I would have specced , my concern is for the extra money I would be paying for the GTS I am not convinced that what I would end up with , wouldnt be a right lot different to what I have already ?
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Still not a bad days work, but missing out on a beautiful car.
So...last couple weeks I have been looking into to get a new Spyder but as suspected been told by Porsche dealer as I'm late to the party the chances of getting one now are looking pretty slim , I have spotted a few for sale used and I wouldn't be against paying a premium to own one but whats for sale is not in my chosen colour and I am pretty fixed on wanting one in white , frustrating as in a position to buy straight away .
Anyway Speaking with the dealer he has offered me a slot on a new GTS which I am half considering , the appeal is I can then spec it how I want it , I have a 981 Boxster 3.4S that I bought used last year ,which is highly specced but has a couple of extras that ordering new I would have specced , my concern is for the extra money I would be paying for the GTS I am not convinced that what I would end up with , wouldnt be a right lot different to what I have already ? as I would get the same colour and likely spec it exactly the same as my current car but just add a couple of extras to it mine is missing and maybe change the hood colour . This was the big Appeal of getting a Spyder with the bigger engine ect was the same car but different/better!
So I either wait it out and see if a Spyder comes up new or used and buy that no question or as second choice go for the GTS but Im not sure how long I have to decide on this as my local only has one slot left . Financially I reckon If I bought a Gts now and kept hold of my current car til Spring and sold it them it would end up costing me around £22k to do the change but as said I am not convinced its money well spent , other thoughts are my car has lost its big chunk of depreciation by the first owner loosing over £20,000 in the first 18 months of him owning it , they actually seem to be advertised for the more than I payed last year which is a nice position to be in but buying new I would likely have to stomach the drive out of showroom depreciation which doesn't really have a great appeal , I have never really looked at the GTs and my local Porsche dealer doesn't have one as a demo so I would be unable to take a look or drive before ordering , so any opinions on this , would a GTS be worth the money over an S or do I hang fire and see what comes up.
Personally I do not think it is worth swapping from 981s to a 981 Gts, also the cost to swap and the money you lose on a new GTS you might as well go pay the extra for the spyder. The Spyder is a pretty safe bet in terms of depreciation and is most likely the last ever convertible na flat6!
You may be able to get a 981 SPYDER with delivery miles for £10-15k overs which imo you won't lose a lot of and may cost you more in the spring/summer

Yes he is but something else to consider instead of paying the overs!
Hi JeffC.
You don't seem convinced yourself that its the best move - must admit I wouldn't make the jump.I would either pay £10K premium (do it now before Spring arrives) or hang fire for a similar interesting iteration of the Spyder or GT4 - but who knows what engine Porsche will be using in the future. I would expect very little depreciation with the 981 Spyder & probably will increase in value (currently rarer than a GT4).

yeh to answer both I have owned a 987 and although I thought it was a better drivers car than my current 981 , they just look dated to me parked beside the newer model , I have a track/race car so just want a nice road car which to be fair I have at the moment and I really like my car but the Spyder just looks that little bit special and ticks all the boxes for me .
As most have said - wait for a Spyder you like , lose the battle , pay the overs and win the long term depreciation war - the Spyder even with £K 10 overs should be a cheaper car in the long run than the GTS - also they are awesome cars - I'm lucky enough to have the pleasure of a 991RS and I have a Spyder coming - I bet I pick the Spyder keys up more than the RS's : it's just such an honest , fun package ; I loved it when I drove it at the PEC .
I think the overs on the GT4 make the Spyder overs look cheap IMHO - either way - only you can decide , but reading your opening post , it would seem you already know that swapping to a GTS may not be the best move. Either way good luck

Everything RSVP911 said.
(Well, apart from owning a 991rs regrettably).
Ditto what others of said.
It seems to me from what you have written that you don't really want to swap to the GTS. By all accounts a very nice car but if you are enjoying your current car I'm not sure it's worth swapping for.
The 981 Spyder is worth swapping to. If you are prepared to pay the premium (the idea of doing so hurts, but you're a long time dead!) I would compromise over the colour. Most would agree that the Spyder looks good in almost any colour (I still need convincing on the Viper Green
).
Well curiosity got the better of me and I went and had a look at a GTS, very nice car and very nicely specced with buckets and carbon, cost to change was pretty much as I expected but looking at the two cars (mine a few months older but with less miles ) and I concluded as expected just cant see £20,000 between the two ,maybe if I didnt own my car already and was looking at both cars I would have just spent the money and bought the GTS but having my car realistically at £20k less makes the decision slightly different.
Also the one today was PDK which they mostly seem to be and I did the 60 mile drive via some twisty backroads and consciously drove my car hard using the gears in and out the corners and really enjoyed the drive in my manual car I think the PDK really would dilute the enjoyment for me. So think I am gonna hang fire and go with my heart and see if I can get hold of a Spyder at sensible money or be lucky enough to drop onto a cancelled order, if anyone hears of a one please shout and thanks for the input.

Ideal world I really wanted solid white but other than the wheel colour I could live with the spec, that must be a fairly hefty premium on that though as the one I specced earlier in the year was similar but unless im mistaken was nothing like that money from memory, will see if I can dig it out.
I would have thought about 14-15k over list, but reading the other thread on GT4, the owner will only see about 9-10k profit.
Still not a bad days work, but missing out on a beautiful car.
Just ran it through the configurator and it's £69,438 plus on the road charges which are close to a grand. So it's not such a huge uplift.
Quite possible I missed something out!
JeffC said:
PS can you still get on the configurator I tried this morning and it only gave option of the new model.
Yes.
Select the 718 base model on the configurator. Top left there's a "model" tab. You'll be able to select Boxster Spyder.
Really difficult to look ahead at possible future values but the Spyder has a lot going for it. Plus we're currently in January - nobody wants a Spyder or indeed any car in January. At least, not January in the UK

ah cool will check that out.
yep agreed without the premium they look sensibly priced and likely to be safe place to put your money even worst case if things go pear shaped you not gonna loose no fortunes , no one can predict whats gonna happen in the market , there will be lot of people out there with more money than sense but when you talking £85,000 and some of those GT4s up at £105,000 + sorry but I personally think thats madness to spend on a "Coxster" no matter how good it is and certainly wouldn't be my idea of a good buy . I may be wrong but I think looking forward the bubble will burst and things will settle down , especially with the 718 now available there is a lot of uncertainty .
Actually I think the 718 will have a positive effect on the 981. Speaking for myself, I don't want a 4 pot turbo.
If you can pick up a Spyder in a spec you're happy with at close to list then that's the way I'd go.
The thing that made me laugh about being offered a Spyder by OPC, is that I told him I take delivery of BGTS on March 1st.
Please take into account this is a brand spanking new car. He said "well ask your OPC to sell it sale or return and buy the Spyder I'm offering you. Surely that means I would immediately lose £5k ish on the BGTS, and then pay a £12k premium on his. BLOODY COOKOO LAND.
I then asked about LOI on 718 GT4 and Spyder, he said if I buy his Spyder or order a new 718 I could possibly be considered.
This whole thing is totally fuooked up.
Anyway, 4 and a bit weeks and it's here.

just sent you one via your profile , wonder if there is an issue as was supposed to send me a copy and it didnt arrive.
I can be contacted on 07976 401888.
I have seen very little movement in the ones advertised other than prices coming down. Personally I think the Spyder needs to be in a bright colour, Silver and the darker Bog door blue would be a no no for me.

I actually like GT Silver but not so sure about the red interior. Also think GT Silver suits Satin Black wheels.
I guess the fact that it's January, wet and windy hasn't helped the vendor

In real like the red interior is lovely - looks brighter than reality in the photos - it's actually quite dark and very rich - looks awesome with GTSM - all MHO , obviously

I guess you may find out in a few years
I'd hope so, certainly on the GT4. But right now the range comprises 4 cylinder turbos.
Great pic. I agree the JZM shot's doesn't do it justice.
Looks better with Satin Black wheels too I think.
I'd be tempted by the red interior with a white car if I could spec the interior trim in white too.

Interesting that shot is like most that show the red as way brighter than reality - I've speced mine with plat wheels - I have an issue with black wheels and the fact they loose thier definition when next to the black tyre. I really like the white with the red inside and red callipers , but I understand your point re the trim colour - it is bloody annoying as I would have changed it to brushed chrome if I could - OPC tried and failed. Here's another shot or two that I like :

Should be a great car.
I genuinely think it's going to be a very special thing - it's mid engined , planted , quick , agile , beautiful , manual , loads of feel and it sounds like nothing on earth , what's not to like - I absolutely loved my time in it at the PEC - roll on March 1st
I've got my GT4 PEC day on Feb 22nd. Nothing booked for Spyder yet.
I'm holding off on the GT4 delivery until March 1st. Spyder is scheduled for end of April. If I'm honest, I'm probably looking forward to the Spyder more, only because it's open air motoring which I miss.

Not sure I can justify keeping such similar cars for too long. The Spyder is definitely my choice for summer.

They do make a nice pair, but my experience so far is that the Spyder seems to have the edge for noise and throttle response for some reason. Haven't done too many miles in the GT4 yet to be honest, but it does seem to be quieter and more refined than the Spyder, I guess because of the proper roof.
Not knocking the GT4 at all, I'm sure it'll be great once I get further up the rev range, but the Spyder is pretty epic at any speed so far even with the roof up.
PS - I went with white and think it looks great, but GT silver would have been my 2nd choice. Steel brakes feel great and nice and quiet.

Silver wheels, thought initially they might be too light but they look great and go really well with white in my opinion.

I'm fascinated by the same conundrum. My Spyder is arriving first, and for some reason I think it may end up being a longer term relationship than the GT4. I have a suspicion that the Spyder can offer 90% of the performance thrills the GT4, yet the GT4 only 60% the overall driving experience of a Spyder... I could be completely wrong, but that's my premature speculation...

Hi Sandy , sent you a PM , not sure it worked though as I didn't get a copy ? Cheers
On noise the Spyder has the advantage of a fabric roof and so will sound louder inside the cabin and the. Gt4 is quieter and I thought my PSE was not working until I wound down the windows then it really did sound good!
