Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

costs that I was worried about (£380 fully comp' & 25+ mpg running back and forward to work) were no problem at all, it was the Porsche reliability which really finished the relationship.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well, Porsche Paranoia has beaten me - I've only had my '98 C2 for 6 months, but can't bear the terrifying creaks and rattles any longer
Just been to the VW dealers and signed the dotted line for a new Scirocco GT, chipping the C2 in as the deposit. Will hopefully have my bum in the new seat by the 2nd October 8)
Can see a day when I'll get another 911 - hopefully when they've gone back to making more reliable ones
Just wanted to say thanks for the help with tech' issues etc I've had over the past 6 months, and hopefully encourage people with older 996's to ask questions and DIY some simpler faults without heading straight to the dealers - some excellent experience in here.
Anyway, cheers boys :worship:
Now....that is sad news indeed....
Just out of interest, did you consider a pre-owned 997? I recently sold my 996 and it was full squeaks and rattles (probably even more so as it was a Targa compared to your coupe) and by joining the 997 brigade, I no longer have such annoying noises to put up with.
Anyway, Scirocco is a great car indeed and hope you enjoy the experience of driving around one of these.

Fully understand. Anyway, Scirocco is a great piece of kit - built on the Golf MkVI platform. The ride and handling on this car should be sublime and you have the rock solid build quality which may have been lacking from your 996.
When conditions permit, I'd urge you to test drive a 997; I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Thanks for the advice Maxie, I'll definitely try one, though I just know it would really take the gloss of my new buy!! Maybe best leave it a few months
The VW dealer won't actually take it, but have put it on Autotrade and had a bid of 10K. I've polished it up, and am hoping the bidding will get nearer 11 before the I take it in on the big day. Someone's getting a decent buy at that IMHO.
That has got to be the saddest thing I have read in a while. Not so much your leaving, but the indictment on the state of the Pork market
Have you put an ad on here? (it's FREE!)
At least you kept it in the family.
Be seeing you. :thumb:
Cheers! I love you too  (seriously, you're a very knowledgable bloke, and it's nice to see someone who'll share their knowledge)
Haven't advertised it privately GT4, and think I probably could get more if I did. However, it has the worrying 'ticking' noise to consider, and I wouldn't like to have someone coming back and knocking on my door with an engine rebuild bill.
Might still get more through the dealer yet.
That's what I was thinking. A 996 may not have the cachet of its predecessor but they are selling at rock bottom levels now. It is and always will be a great car and a lot of performance for the money. I hope this has not spelt the way for all water cooled generation cars to come else I shall seriously have to think about which models to consider and select next time around. Currently a 996 C4S and above seems to be strong on residuals. In the 997 range I perceive anything from the GTS and above will also retain strong residuals.

Bloody hell mate, you've only been here 5 minutes!!
Seriously, fair play - the build quality on a new Scirocco will probably be much better than the 996 (my previous VWs have all been well put together) and it won't need anything like the same level of looking after as the 911. As long as you're happy, that's the main thing! :thumb:
The used 996 market continues to get more and more grim (for sellers) it seems, ah well... :nooo:
Ha Ha! I'm usually a bit more resiliant Ant, but my pockets have taken one serious battering over the last 6 months, and that's without the depreciation. The future didn't look any cheaper either :nooo:
Cheers for the words of encouragement on the Scirocco - nobody seems to have had a bad word to say for them so far....(cue the bombardment!)
