Although I did recently have the AC system checked for leakage and totally refreshed by a professional.

I have common sense lol...Visually everything checks out and belt was changed recently as well

While my engine was out the Compressor and lines were replaced, and the system regassed.

While this worked for you, I don't recommend this for P-cars, it's too easy to over fill and hose up the compressor.
Yesterday I noticed that my AC wasnt blowing cold, temp was between 95-98 Sunny day out. Today its overcast and temp betweeb 85-89 and AC is blowing cold, had to switchit up to 72.
I know I am screwed since Scottsdale hasnt hit 100-110 yet and than theres the 3 days of 120 degree weather in July. So is the system really affected by a few dgrees between yesterday and toiday? I know the system wont be cooling me off in the really temps.
Get the AC checked out by a pro shop if you can't test it yourself. You might have blend door syndrome which usually affects owners in cold climates where the bitter cold outside air overpowers the warm air generated by the heater core. During the summer the AC system works in reserve but in theory could possibly be affected by the same problem where warm air shoots through the holes in the baffles and overpowers it's ability to produce cold air in the cabin.
Greetings from Chandler (AZ for those that arent locals) . My 04 996 has no problem keeping me comfy all summer
Get your car checked out, the 996 AC keeps up fine..

04 996
You mean the chunks of small black rubber crap coming out of the vents? I almost forgot about that issue I had in the winter time when I had the heat on.
While not quite AZ, I lived in DFW with my 99 for 2 years. In the summers it was typically over 100 for weeks at a time. The AC was always ice cold and I rarely ever had the fan speed above one or two dashes once the cabin cooled down.
Australia has amazingly hot summers. While my engine was out the Compressor and lines were replaced, and the system regassed. The 996.1 was the most comfortable place on a record hot day. A plus for water cooling.
If problem persists.... Only 2 good options afar as I can see it.
1) take to a pro and pay...
2) If you're a DIYer, Get a DIY quality, set of ac gauges, Amazon (has many sets under $100) with R134a quick connect valves included, can adapters, vacuum pump, hoses. Get a good thermometer to stick in your center duct and fix it right. this Amazon set is not Snap On quality tools by any means, but plenty good enough to get the job done for every car in your garage and your neighbors for many years of diy ac work and saving on professional ac service work costs. First time using the Amazon gauges might have to snug down all hose connections with a channel-lock pliers as the hoses have stout hard silicone seals, but tighten just real snug. the hoses are the worst part of the set, but you can make them work leak free for years if you try. If you don't like the hoses, a set of $35Yellowjacket hoses would make the gauges much better.
Even after buying gauges/vac pump/etc, you're still probably way ahead money wise than paying someone else to do the work... Its not hard or rocket science, with the above ac tools you can change any part of the system, evap, condenser, compressor, hoses, o-rings, seals, driers, xvalves, pressure switches, etc.
What I'm saying is, you need to see what gauge pressures you have, and what discharge temps you've got to start some basic trouble shooting. Is the suction line at the compressor cold..?
Hmmm, you live in the 'Valley Of The Sun'... yup, I'd get the ac tools. As you do need that ac in tip top shape for sure.
I was in Phx, end of Aug a few years ago. Was 117 middle of the day. opened the RV door and stuck my head out, was like putting my head in a pizza oven. Same trip was driving down interstate 10 toward LA from Phx, both sides of the road in emergency lanes was covered with black stuff piled few feet high. Couldn't tell what that 'black stuff was...? Then we came upon a state hyway 10wheel truck picking up the blown out tire carcass/pieces off the road... it went on for miles and miles like this. Seems the Valley of the Sun isn't tire or barefoot friendly in the summer...
Wet heat/dry heat debate is BS when its 117 out and that phx sun is beating down on ya. Ya I'll stay with 92-95 with BIG humidity... I love Phoenix, off seasoned covered storaged my Glamis RV there for decades.
Let us know what your gauge readings say if u diy...

Have you determined if its warm all the time? Does it start cold and become warm or does the speed affect anything? Cold at idle and warm when driving etc?
I have a weird AC issue at the moment too. Mine is cold and working perfect at idle but when at speed its hardly blowing even cool air. I had it at a shop to verify and they said they it was serviced properly and pressure was good. I am confused as to what my issue can be...
I forgot I had foam gunk coming out of the vents in the winter time when I used the heat and I am pretty sure my Blend doors are shot. You may have the same issue as it happens to all 996s and Boxsters. Last night I was on youtube seeing what is invloved to repair and 2 choices
Center console and cut vent duct to get at it doors or front route which requires removing a lot of stuff upfront. Heres a video of a guy that did both.

To OP: What HVAC control settings are you using? Auto is crap IMHO. I live in Florida. I manually set the AC to 70, move the fan up about midway, press the recirc button. It blows really cold air. Although I did recently have the AC system checked for leakage and totally refreshed by a professional. The system was on the OE fill, so after 25 years it was due. My blend doors blew out all the crap a long time ago and I have never had any heating/cooling problems.
See below and interesting
On initial start up I do hit auto and than after 10 minutes go manual to LO and do use the recirculate button as more air blows through the vents.
So the system was set like this on the different temp days. it just feels like once I go above 95...The ac is not cooling as it does when the temps are below 95. I also have a Targa and understand the glass makes the cabin hotter and why I think the doors are the reason why it not be cooling it down and the air mix?
Thanks. I religiously use the recirc in all my cars. In previous 996s ive never had to set up the temp below 70 in order to keep the cabin cool. This losing the ability to cool only while at speed is annoying because I can come to a stop light and boom its nice and cold again. There's not much to troubleshoot. My drain line is clear and drains under the car well, fans run when AC is selected and so on.
Have you used to heat gun to see what temp the air coming out of the center vents is? I read somewhere that you should see a specifc temp at a certain setting to identify if theres an issue.
I have not, but its prob the 20 yrs on the car going through its cold/heat cycles that have killed the foam. Today its 91 and again the AC is cold and even set at 70 and it was cold as well. The heat was hot in the winter, so I think the system itself is fine. I will have to figure a time to get into the doors
In Texas, it is almost impossible to drive without AC. The refrigerant was low last fall, took it to get it charged and it has been ice cold again. It has been working fine and gets plenty cold, I keep the cabin at 70 in my cab.
See if the recirc is working. Use a scan tool to check for errors with the servo motor.
Or, open the frunk, remove the right hand rear trim cover, remove the cabin air filter, look inside, and see if the dampers (flaps) move when you press recirc with the engine running. I have seen many failures of the recirc flap motor.
Exthree here in SW Florida where temps have been pushing up above 90 in the last 30 days. My blend door foam has been gone for years so recently the cabin in my 2004 C2 Cab was getting warmer with the A/C not blowing as cold as it should. I followed the A/C threads on Rennlist and added refrigerant to the low side and the temp came down immediately. Try this; it's an easy DIY and make sure to follow directions on the can!! /X3
While this worked for you, I don't recommend this for P-cars, it's too easy to over fill and hose up the compressor. A pro shop will evacuate the system, weigh what was it, and go from there. There is some seepage over the years but chances are there's a small leak somewhere. The shop can find that easily by putting dye in the system and using a UV light to show the leaks, or they can use a leak detector. Either way, take it to a shop.
Thanks for the input. I am reluctant to use the DIY method for regassing Porsches as well.
I'm in SA too, do you have a recommended shop you use if you don't mind sharing?
Thanks.
Ok here's another scratching my head moment, yesterday I drove around when it was 96 and on 70, it was cool/cold at this setting. Later on at night when leaving my concert it was around 83 and the 70 felt hot and I turned down to 68 and it was cool/cold. Auto wasnt even on, I wonder if the system is on Auto still when turned off?
Auto On the AC compressor will cycle on and off as needed. In the Manual mode the AC compressor stays on all the time. Have you checked your serpentine belt? Also visually check the AC compressor clutch. Start engine, turn on AC (manual mode) and visually check that the AC compressor clutch is engaged. Don't stick your hand in there with the engine running!
you and I seem to be having very similar issues.
i have physical temperature fluctuations with the AC as well. Mine is very speed dependent though. At idle shes nice and cold. While moving its warms a bit. But I can cycle the AC button a couple of times and itll get cold again while at speed. Its an odd one.
My car is doing that now, by which I mean I change the temperature +/-2 degrees and feel a dramatic change in what comes out of the vents. I'm pretty sure it's due to the huge piece of foam backing tape I pulled out of the vent last week. I guess it's time to get to that second door...
Mine isnt speed dependent...I would check your belts, pulley and hoses...Might have a leak or? See below
Agreed I believe that is what my issue as the system checks out, I just need to get into that place to check my doors as well
There is an interior temperature sensor that can go bad. If memory serves me, it is a small sensor with a fan located behind the small round screen below the passenger HVAC dash vent. Maybe search for "my dash is whining and I can't figure it out"...something like that. If the interior sensor is bad/clogged/broken, then the HVAC controls have no reference point for the interior temperature.
