Thanks for the replies, it would be second (third) car anyway, as the wife and I both have other cars we use everyday....

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello all, am considering a 996 and wondered what peoples opinions of this car are: I know it has high miles but everything else seems to tick all the right boxes, spec etc... Thanks in advance Lee

POST 2Original post

The mileage is high enough to put a lot of people off but if you intend to keep it awhile IMO you won't find much better for £15k when you consider what it has on it. If the bodykit and PSE aren't crucial to you (although I suspect they are) there's loads with less miles around for the same price.

POST 3Original post

It looks cherished to me. If it is going to be a weekend car that you are keeping for a while, then why not? Enjoy it for a couple of years, put another 5-10k miles on it, and sell it for £10-12k and it won't be expensive motoring. I would have to lose the GT3 scuff plates though. If you decide to go for it, get a decent PPI done. If it is a daily driver, then I tend to agree with T8996C4 and maybe look for something with less miles without some of the toys for similar money - or revise your budget a little.

POST 4Original post

+1 I noticed it has the 911 badge on the rear and not a gt3 8) TB

POST 5Original post

In addition to the above comments, it's a TIPEC member's car so no doubt probably been very well looked after. ~ Maxie

POST 6Original post

Don't do it!!! The mileage is to high + you'll find it impossible to sell when you've added your miles + why would you upload a crap interior image? Be patient and wait for something with lower miles you'll be happier.

POST 7Original post

Spot on i bet its a nice car worth a look :thumb:

POST 9Original post

i am with the buy and enjoy brigade, as long as not a daily driver the spec is really good and the car looks cared for from the two good pics (interior not really assessable from crap photo) if you can get it for £500-1000 less then perfect from what i have seen here mileage isnt such an issue as it could be argued that a car with higher mileage which has been properly maintained has passed the worry points for the 996 i saw a 996 10 years old with 18000 miles on the clock, they wanted £24000 due to low mileage but it is out of warranty and could be a ticking time bomb for the engine to grenade itself so why pay more? there are a few better cars for a few grand more but none have the body kit and exhaust good luck

POST 10Original post

if the GT3 look is your thing what about this one http://911uk.com/template.php?page=28 £2000 cheaper but no PSE and lower miles (just!)

POST 12Original post

104,000 miles on a 12 year old car- that's about 8,500 miles per year. Correct me if I am wrong but isn't "average" mileage considered to be 12,000 per year? This is not a dig at the original poster or anyone else but why should a Porsche be less capable to covering the same miles as, lets say, a Ford Focus? My wifes last Focus did 134,000 miles in less time than the 996 that this thread is the subject of and was still running fine (and IS still running fine 2 years and another 10,000 miles on). I'm just not sure I understand the hang-up on mileage with these cars, especially as they are often referred to as "the supercar that you can use everyday" - surely they are as capable of doing an average amount of miles per year as any other car??? I just wouldn't expect people to be so negative with "stay away from this" - "run a mile" type quotes if it were a BMW, a Mercedes, a VW or a Ford with the same miles on.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I must admit the mileage is not really bothering me as the car has all the right spec, and as you say mileage is a hang up for a lot of people. My BMW 335D has done over 170K miles and is still going strong!! I reckon I will be going to look at the car when I get back to the UK in a week or so.. Lee :thumb:

POST 14Original post

Just wait till you drive it with the PSE on full wail Then take the relay that controls the on/off valve out and start smiling all over again You will soon forget the milage :thumb:

POST 15Original post

PSE is not the be all and end all, ive got a 2001 C4 convertible with 123k on the clock , serviced al the way by porsche, never missed a beat, and i just added a pair of Oettle bypass mufflers, give the same sound as the PSE only no valve to turn off, why would you want to turn off? i can tippy toe around fine, when i floor it i light the place up ! sounds great.. so dont be put off by milage ever, these cars are made to last regardless of the problems some people have, you will allways get some with problems, and the exhaust can be made to sound PSE for a fraction of the cost, 400 quid mine cost me
