First Post sorry if I mess things up or did something wrong. I'm rebuilding my
Cayman
engine since it wasn't all there when I from a salvage yard and need to know where a vacuum line goes. I have attached a pic of the one line that needs a home.
I believe that tube connects to a larger diameter tube that runs down to a vacuum pump driven off of the left hand cam shafts on the front of the engine.
Thanks I will take a look and see if it looks like anything will plugin.
I think I'm missing something I hope you can help maybe a pic so I know what to look for. I have the plenum vacuum line, I have the brake vacuum line, and the tandem pump, but no way of connecting everything together. I called two
Porsche
Deals and they both didn't have a clue on what the part was or a part number.
What i know of the vacuum system comes from tracing it to tap in for a Capristo
exhaust
. I really don't know much more than I've said. I think there's a larger diameter tube that runs from the pump to the tube you have. Where that might be in parts I don't know. There used to be a copy of the PET parts catalog in the site files section. You might find something there.
Hi Les,
I am trying to install my Capristo system now into my '06
Boxster
2.7L. What vacuum line did you tap? I am not 100% sure which one. I don't seem to see one that fits the included brass hose tees that come with the kit.
It's been a while. From what I remember the tees were used in the rubber lines from the
exhaust
pressure taps to the controller and in the rubber lines from the Capristo vacuum solenoid to the valves on the mufflers. You might want to browse through the site articles under
Cayman
Performance for Capristo installation. Not aimed at a
Boxster
but it might help with how it all goes together.
I don't know if this is the case or not but assuming that the 2.7 vacuum system is the same as a
Cayman
3.4, vacuum is supplied from a pump driven off one of the cam shafts on the front of the left hand cylinder head. The pump has one tube that runs forward to the
brake booster
and a second smaller one that runs up to the top of the engine under the intake manifolds. This line is Y'ed off to run to two solenoid valves clipped between the intake manifold runners. These solenoids then have lines that run to the two butterfly valves in the crossover pipes between the intake manifolds. You want to tee into the vacuum line before the crossover solenoids so you have a constant vacuum supply to the Capristo solenoid.
I don't think you'll be able to use a brass tee for this. These tubes are flexible plastic and used rubber couplings and tees.
If the 2.7 engine is different I'm not sure what to suggest.
Ahh, OK, so those thin plastic lines with the rubber couplers are the vacuum lines. I think there is easy access to one over between the intakes for cylinders 3 & 4 as shown on this
Porsche sport exhaust
install article:

My engine looks pretty much the same as the one in the article.
Now I just need to source the rubber vacuum tee pieces and figure out how to get easy access to the solenoid.
You could try Autozone etc. Or you could use a couple short pieces of rubber vacuum hose to couple a hard tee to the plastic lines.
I'd expect that the vacuum source for
PSE
to work fine for Capristo. Sorry but I've no clue about easy engine access on a
Boxster
. Good luck.
