I just ordered some Zimmerman drilled rotors and will be replacing them myself. I looked for a "how to" and could not find one for rotor replacement. I have replaced rotors on other vehicles in the past but wanted some advice prior to tackling this on my 08
cayman s
. Any special tools needed etc. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. p.s. If I missed a how to article please point me in the right direction.
Thanks, E
:thanks:
there are two articles. this one has a reference to the other, so you should be all set....

Don't forget that you are supposed to replace the caliper bolts when you replace the rotors (can order thru Suncoast). I'm not sure about the 08 Caymans, but the earlier models require a 10mm hex key to remove the caliper bolts; the newer replacement bolts require a T55 star (torx) driver.
Thanks for all your help. The change out looks very straight forward and easy enough for a caveman to do it.. lol
I watched an ~8 minute video on youtube too... very easy... sorry I don't have the link, but it can't be too hard to find..

^ Wait a minute... Do we need to replace the front brake pad damper everytime!? Ughh ohh.... :hilarious:
I've just always used the one in there...
I don't!
I think i messed up too, maybe someone can chime in on this.
I used the old shim's and bolts with the new updated brake pads....
So the bolt goes under the shim....I left it like that for now until the parts come in, but do you guys think i'll be fairly safe from damage??
If you are installing street pads, you can get by re-using the vibration damping shims. I take them out when I install track pads and put them back in when I re-install the street pads after the event. Not using them makes it easier to get the track pads out of the caliper. Just keep the adhesive surface clean.
I think it is a real good idea to follow the requirement to use new bolts when re-installing the calipers. I've seen others post that they re-use the old bolts, but to me it's a small expense relative to the hassle of extracting a sheared-off bolt or repairing the damage if the caliper came loose. Call me overly conservative, but I really want the brakes to work every time I need them...
