There is no law against using full throttle, and it is possible to use a reasonable amount of performance on the road in a safe and responsible manner.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 4Original post

Thats the word I was looking for last night. I think last nights lagerfest stifled by vocabulary. DAZ

POST 7Original post

Saw some clips of all those Porsches in the Landie article. Was that it?

POST 8Original post

Pretty amusing that the C4S was beaten by a clio eh?!

POST 9Original post

A C4S would also be out accellerated in certain ranges by certain westfields and caterhams and most motorbikes over 600cc. This alone doesn't stop it being a fantastic all round sportscar. Definitely worth paying the extra over the standard C4. DAZ PS - Can we take it you're not going to put a deposit down on a C4S then Paul?

POST 10Original post

Hang on - I just checked on Evo's The Knowledge data sheets and it doesn't look like the Renault V6 does pull the C4S Renault Sport Clio V6 230Bhp 175Bhp/tonne 0-60 in 5.8 secs C4S 316Bhp 218Bhp/tonne 0-60 in 5.1 secs Unless the V6 pulls past after 60 ish ? I know the new V6 Clarkson et al reviewd on Sunday had 255 Bhp but 25 Bhp won't make that much difference. So was Clarkson talking out his posterior ?

POST 11Original post

Yes. If there's one thing that annoys me about motoring programs, its treating their audience as though the're thick, which is essentially what the're doing if they think we believe a V6 Clio is faster than a 996 of any flavour. Gimps. Still compulsive watching though - an hour of (mostly) car related stuff at a perfect time of day.

POST 12Original post

And another thing... That 'feature' on the Focus WRC team stripping down and replacing the power train brakes etc vs the Pirelli girls getting ready to go out. W T F was that about ? Why not just show us the girlies in skimpy clothes driving the Focus ? or them stripping it down and the blokes wearing heels and makeup. No, ..maybe not that one. It was just one step away from being a blonde-drapped-over-a-new-mota moment.

POST 13Original post

Just sent this comment in to the Beeb's top gear web site lets see if I get a reply...?

POST 14Original post

I had a C4S last year, no way the Clio can take it with equal drivers. Rich

POST 15Original post

Porsche GB are likely to be pretty pissed off with the sweeping, dismissive comments spouting forth from Clarkson's @rse!! (1) The Clio V6 cannot out accelerate a C4S (Renault's own figures show a 5.8s 0-60. (2) He omitted to mention that punters get a lot for their money in a C4S, including Turbo brakes and suspension - not just a body kit!! What a spastic. Although, I agree with the general sentiment about the C4S being a bit of a tart's handbag. What's the point of all that extra weight without a power boost?

POST 16Original post

Clarkson also said the C4S has the same engine as the turbo minus the turbo`s - which isn`t really true either.

POST 17Original post

IIRC, the 993 4S was slated by motoring journos as being a bit of a tart's handbag (all show and no go - I seem to remember it got thrashed by a variety of junior supercars on a Top Gear trip to the Nurburgring a few years ago - they said the handling was "all at sea", and a lot of other mags described it as a City wide-boy's car). Whereas the 996 C4S seems to be receiving handsome praise for handling even better than the base C2. Given that I have recently been considering a 996 TT, I wonder if the C4S will give me everything I really need, but with less fear of losing my licence. I can't imagine that a fraction of a second difference between my C2 and a C4S is going to be very noticeable.

POST 18Original post

you will/can lose your licence in any porker. Go for the tubo and do it in style

POST 19Original post

Just in case you wanted to see the Pirelli girls in action with a WRC rally car - www.wrc.com/en_GB/Gallery/Photo/2002/003/RallyBabes16.htm well OK they aren't really working on a car as such...

POST 20Original post

Nah the goon said turbo singular about 4 times....

POST 21Original post

My money was on the standard Carrera 2, she was just gorgeous... Laddish, you bet. Fun, definitely. Complain, never. Sunday nights have never been so enjoyable since Going for a Song.

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ive said it once and Ill say it again.... JC is an utter w*nker.... He knows all about cars... He's a truly shit driver... And I know for a fact he has little integrity. Just because hes got his own ( and it is his own) 1 hour propoganda show every sunday night, does not make him some sort of car guru. And it really pisses me off how some PHers (esp TVR owners) seem to revere him. BTW If he is such a petrolhead, why does he never do or talk about trackdays??

POST 23Original post

For the same reason I don't probably. Because I couldn't care less about track days.

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

so how do you experience the full performance of your car??? on the roads??? If you do then your a fool.

POST 25Original post

>> Edited by domster (moderator) on Tuesday 17th June 12:29

POST 26Original post

Let me elaborate on that slightly. I have in the past driven at Combe, Brands and Donington, and done rally driving a couple of times also at Brands. I did this for the experience, but it wasn't especially interesting enough to warrant huge amounts of wear and tear on the car on an onging basis. I have not run the C4 at 170mph, nor do I particularly care to. I have a Land Rover but I haven't crossed the Sahara in it. There is no law against using full throttle, and it is possible to use a reasonable amount of performance on the road in a safe and responsible manner. My driving record is >460K miles and NO ACCIDENTS, so don't ever presume to preach to me about road safety. Don't make assumptions about what other people do. The fact is that even in a one make owners club such as the TVRCC, only a single digit percentage want to drive any track days, and most only do one or two. Just because you chose to drive trackdays does not mean that the majority of car enthusiasts do, and nor does it diminish their enthusiasm. It might just mean they have other ways to spend their time and money. I take four foreign holidays a year, odd extra days off are out of the question anyway.

POST 28 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

using full throttle is not what I would describe as using the full performance of your car. In fact it is not so in the slightest. Though I respect the fact that you have done so many miles without any accidents, so have I, and so have many grey heaired old rover drivers too. That doesn't make me respect their opinion on driving...which was what this comment stemmed from anyway (JC not having done any track days) My comment on whether you use the full potential of your car or not on the road was aiming at the handling aspects of your car on the limit. (ive done 100+ track days and never taken a car above 135) and was not in any way an insult to you. Unlike your comment to me. Doing track days wont necessarily wear your car out either. Driving smoothly and braking progressively can save on tyres and pads/ discs. I only need to change my pads / tyres every 10 track days or so. I think it is a shame that if you have a performance car, you don't use it to the full. Especially a 911. Quite frankly the same goes for Off- roaders too. Finally if only one percent of TVR owners do track days then not only would I be surprised, but probably would never bother buying one because it would infer that they are too weak to drive hard. Go to any RMA at Bedford autodrome. Out of 120 cars 60 of them are porsches. I am a member of the PCGB and I know quite a few members. At least 25% of all members do 3 or 4 track days a year.

POST 33Original post

Well, I've just binned the **** you comment. There's no place for personal abuse on this forum. I've left the topic open as I think the trackday debate is interesting... are they really the place to exploit the performance of your car (overcook it and someone could collect you)... are they really any safer than the public roads (who drives to sainsbury's at ten tenths?)... do they make you more of a fast car enthusiast or are they an irrelevance in the real world of potholes and crap camber? Also, please note that slagging off - directly or indirectly) certain groups, including gay hairdressers, the JC fanclub and the TVR 'I've got a warranty and am happy to use it' crew, is always likely to stimulate an argument. This will be seen as deliberate provocation unless smileys are liberally applied, and the thought police will swoop. Please discuss things maturely and avoid personal insults at all times. Thank you kindly and may your S02s never wear. Domster
