Suggestion

What I did was to score the plastic tab (with a box knife cutter) portion of the connector as you mentioned and I then pushed it back and forth until it made a clean break from the connector and that's all it took to allow it to connect properly.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

ScanGauge now has the ability to render mfr-specific data for which the user supplies the protocol (data format). The relevant portion of p.25 of the manual for the new (X-Gauge) version reads: (grab the whole manual here .) Are oil temp/press. accessible via OBD2? I understand that they are on the CANbus, and that the oil gauges in a 997 dashboard, transplanted into a 987, will in fact work right.

POST 3Original post

I just got one of these and unfortunately the OBD-II connector does not fit! I called the vendor and the person answering the phone (receptionist?) stated that this is known problem with Porsches and that I have to sand down the circumference of the connector!! I'm trying to get some "concrete" information as to what exactly needs to be done to the connector to make it fit the Porsche socket. I thought someone on this forum already purchased this had it working but I don't recall reading about any modification required to make it work properly on their Cayman (S). I tried to search for this thread but I couldn't find it. I've emailed their support address and haven't heard back. I would think that the OBD-II is a standard which defines the connector and socket specs but obviously this may not be the case. Next steps???

POST 4Original post

I'm interested in how this comes out too. I'm pretty sure oil temp is available but I don't think that actual pressure is. Just a low warning.

POST 5Original post

My OBD-II connector works fine for my car. Admittedly it was bought from Softronic for a Cayman . But your right, it's an industry standard not something specific to makes (of course engine mangement software will vary). So, I can't understand what your retailer is on about. I found the code for Oil Pressure: P0521 Engine Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch Circuit Range/Performance So, my plan is to have a mess around and see if I can log the Oil Pressure and temp, throttle position, rpm, gear etc. There are a few things I'm interested in doing with this data: Create a low Oil pressure warning (red light and audible alarm) Gather data to see when and by how much oil pressure drops Assess before/after impact of any oil system changes (eg sump extension, accusump) Andy

POST 6Original post

Oh, almost forgot.. oil temp maybe even pressure likely available... off of the OBD bus but not necessarily CAN. Instrument cluster might be accessible by say not CAN but by KWP2000. Had my '08 Cayman S in last week for a dead radio and tech hooked up PWIS and was going through the motions of resetting this and as a side effect reset the instrument cluster and other things too. The traffic was on the KWP bus. I captured it with an OBD bus snooper I have. Sincerely, Rockster.

POST 7Original post

Hey Professor MSP, I actually figured it out on my own and I even emailed Linear Logics support group on the fix so that they can be clearer in providing the "fix" to other Porsche /Volks owners who experience this problem. What I did was to score the plastic tab (with a box knife cutter) portion of the connector as you mentioned and I then pushed it back and forth until it made a clean break from the connector and that's all it took to allow it to connect properly. Too bad Linear Logic didn't make the effort to figure out why their product didn't fit some cars and instead only provides vague information to try and fix the problem. With regards to the OPs question, I haven't seen any data to capture the oil pressure via the ScanGauge II product.

POST 8Original post

This looks like a fun project ... NerdKits - OBD II Car Computer I don't remember if you can get oil temp from the obd2 readout, but if so this would be pretty cheap to build and or be the basis for a very flexible design.

POST 9Original post

I'm having the same problem with my new OBDII scanner DLC connection. I have used another model from the same manufacturer before but somehow got a good connection and cleared a code successfully. No go with connecting well enough to get power to the reader from the DLC's power with my Equus 3130. My question is do you need to cut and remove the whole protrusion on the outer edge of the reader's DLC connection or should I just try to shorten it some?

POST 10Original post

i just tried hooking up my snap on scan tool ...it plugs right in...one of these days i will see what i can monitor/test ...09 cay

POST 11Original post

I don't believe that oil pressure is on the bus. At least it doesn't show up on Durametric as a monitorable value. Durametric the people didn't think it was available either. IIRC oil temp is on there as is water. No idea what it would take to add press to the bus. Of course a plain old fashioned sensor and gauge could probably be worked out.

POST 12Original post

I have installed the PLX instrument which gets its figures from OBD II. OBD II does not read oil pressure or oi l temperature, so you have to fit sensonrs to read them. I am very satisfied with the result as plx instrument is digital and ultra thin (2-3 mm) and you can fit it wherever you want

POST 14Original post

I'd like to add to the discussion. The Cayman does NOT have a pressure sending unit on it from the factory, so adding a multi purpose device like this would be useless. If you want to measure oil pressure, you're going to have to install a sending unit with it. See this post for my results: http://www.planet-9.com/cayman-boxs...yman-boxster-chat/23590-should-cayman-have-oil-pressure-gauge-4.html#post546619
