I have had my 2008 Porsche Boxster RS60 for 9 months and I just took it in for its first oil change since I have owned it. Before that, the previous person took it in for two oil changes, once in 2009 and 2010. The car has 10,238 miles on it and I was wondering what I should do for additional services since I don't put that many miles on it. I have done searches and it seems that oil changes are the big thing which I have done and I also just changed the cabin filter. What about brakes, trans fluid, and etc.?? Any help? Also, what should I look out for before the 4 year/50,000 mile ends? Advice???
Thanks!
Welcome to another local owner.
For a car like yours, I'd throw out the mileage recommendations for oil/filter changes and just change it once a year.
The pollen and air filters are affected by the amount of miles you drive and won't go bad by having them sit there too long. You've changed the pollen filter already and I'm sure that a 11K miles, your engine air filter is still pristine (unless you live in a very dusty area). When I took the air filter out of my 2008 @ 26,000 miles, it was barely dusty.
Brake pads are again, a wear item based on miles driven. Unless the car has been flogged at the track, I don't think you have to worry about the pads yet. Just go by a dealer and look at how thick a new pad is and then eyeball your own. It should be obvious if there is any wear. Don't be one of those people who wait until the sensor warns them!
The thing I would change however is your brake fluid. The recommended interval is every 2 years, regardless of miles. Brake fluid will absorb water from the atmosphere over time, it doesn't care if you drive it or not.
Now at the end of 4 years, the major Porsche recommended service item will be the spark plugs. Not that the plugs are worn out after 4 years and your low mileage, but there is a chance that the plugs will seize to the engine block and give you a much larger headache down the road.
Aside from that, here are some more things to check for.
1. Windshield wipers
2. Battery (I plan to change mine around the 5 year mark as preventive maintenance)
3. Refill the windshield wiper fluid
4. Check your coolant level (only after the car has sat overnight however!)
That's all I can think of for now.
