Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Much more important than how much you pay for the plugs though is that the plugs are of the right reach, the correct heat range, have the right number of ground electrodes (4 IIRC) and are installed correctly, tightened down properly.

Suspected cause

Also, if one is finding he's replacing plugs that are in good condition because their use by date has expired imho the problem is he's not driving the car enough.

Suggestion

As I touched upon in an earlier post, I think Porsche is being a bit conserative when specifying a plug change after a few years.

Also, in a few cases Porsche has removed the time factor and just puts a mileage number on the plug change interval.

I know that Porsche does not recommend using antiseize compound so perhaps that's the reason?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Question from a newbie... Recently picked up my 06 CS with about 24K - I don't think the plugs were ever changed.... looks like I need to change them since the schedule calls for 4yrs / 60K miles... OEM plugs appear to be Bosch FGR-5-KQE0 - any reason I need to get these from the Dealer? Amazon has them for $5+ each... Thanks in advance. Ken

POST 2Original post

As long as the plugs are the right plugs I guess you can buy them from wherever you find them for sale for the least amount of money. Much more important than how much you pay for the plugs though is that the plugs are of the right reach, the correct heat range, have the right number of ground electrodes (4 IIRC) and are installed correctly, tightened down properly. Sincerely, Rockster.

POST 3Original post

Thanks Rockster, I went ahead and ordered them. I'll report when I get them to confirm they are the correct ones.

POST 4Original post

Hi All So was the question answered. Are plugs changed based on mileage or time. If you have 25K miles after 4 years shoul you change the plugs? Is it because they could seize after that amount of time. I know that Porsche does not recommend using antiseize compound so perhaps that's the reason? Thx

POST 5Original post

Yes, I figured it is an issue with the plugs seizing in the head. If I'm going in there just to remove and re-install, I figured I might as well replace them - the cost isn't that significant.

POST 6Original post

I guess the next question is... Has anyone had any problems with seized plugs or ever heard of seized plugs on a late model P?

POST 7Original post

I've never heard of any late model Porsche OEM plugs being found seized. In fact, I can't ever recall encountering any plug that was seized in any engine I've ever worked on. As I touched upon in an earlier post, I think Porsche is being a bit conserative when specifying a plug change after a few years. But better safe than sorry. Also, in a few cases Porsche has removed the time factor and just puts a mileage number on the plug change interval. Also, if one is finding he's replacing plugs that are in good condition because their use by date has expired imho the problem is he's not driving the car enough. Sincerely, Rockster.
