They did argue that the original p/x was low because of the milage (13k) and the new model had just arrived and also they had a glut of used Boxsters in the UK.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

With £40k to spend my money would go on a 993RS
but if its Boxster flavoured pork you desire its got to be an S, what on earth do you need toys for when you have a screaming flat six and a sweet chassis ?
It's a personal decision. Depends on your own priorities. Also depends on how fast your previous cars have been and hence what you're used to. Test drive both, they're great cars. Me, I went for the S, and if they did a more powerful version I'd probably go for that. Also, IMHO some options are essential, e.g. leather interior, decent stereo, wind deflector.
Rico what you have read is total bollocks.
The different colour dials is a cost option on boxsters and 996. More importantly the S has a 3.2 instead of the 2.7 litre engine, which puts out an additional 50ish bhp.
DAZ
I have one of the first 2.5 liter boxsters, and am thnking of sending it to RUF to hav a 3.4 or 3.6 liter engine transplantd into it with all the suspension and breaks from the carrera.
So my friend go for the POWER take the S.
Iguana...please stop reccomending 993RS for £40k,they are hard enough to find without encouraging more buyers.
Sorry for interupting the thread,,,,but do you need to ask???? Get the S a grat car.
Yeh, that's what i thought too.... Wouldn't have thought they'd have printed b
s on a calendar though...... and the photo is blurred! ggrrrr
Cheers Daz! Can't wait to see your turbo at PF!

i' ve had a S for 2 weeks & would not have even considered a regular 2.7 box.
i' d rather have considered a 993 cab or even 964.
The S is the car for the enthusiasts. The 2.7 is a nice car, but you' ll soon crave for more power.
Why don' t you look in the adds? There are plenty of S with lots of toys & low miles well below £35k... let alone £40k...
You could find a 2002 with sat-nav & all & less than 10k miles.
That' s what i would do (well that' s what i have done).
Regards,
E.
The S is well worth the extra wedge, for the money you get...........
3.2 litre engine
6 speed gear box (only 5 on 2.7)
Uprated suspension.
uprated brakes as 996
aircon (extra on 2.7)
plus white dials & various badges & extra's
It always used to have an extra layer of insulation on the roof as well although I'm not sure about the facelift cars.
BUY THE S it goes, handles, sounds & stops better a GGGreat car, all this talk of 993's, the things are nearly ten years old & showing it. Great focused drivers cars, nice sound...BUT the Boxter S is a better
package, sorry guy's but it is, I know it hasn't got the macho image but in all other ways it is the best value car in the Porker range.
A Boxster S is so good, I have no idea why people buy 996 cabriolets (unless they have kids).
I have seen well driven S's keeping up with 996's on unfamiliar twisty roads many times.
Glad this subject has come up.
Husband and I were talking about what to get next and wondering if it was worth upgrading from the 2.7 Boxster to the 3.2.
Seems you've already answered any questions I had.
Cheers
Well thanks for all your replys, still very undecided even though the bulk of you have gone for the 'S'.
Okay so if I was to go for the 'S', then what would you folks say would be the most important options for resale values? I've currently got the huge list down to a few things due to the £6k increase in price over the 2.7, upgrade to full leather, wind deflector, sound system, OBC, heated seats, 18" carrera's and alu gear/hand brake!
Thanks again for the replys and hope to make up my decision soon....!
One other thing, Seal or Basalt?? I'm swinging towards Seal at the moment, saw one at the OPC with Carrera's and it looked lovely in the sun...grrr!
Go for the seal - I did ! MY S is less than a year old under 10k on the clock, a whole hat full of extras - the only thing it hasn't got is sat nav, so I bought a map. All for 37k after the haggle.
There are loads out there with about £3k difference on the same spec car depending on the dealer.
Good luck
Rod,
sorry for getting off topic, but:
I see from your profile, that you owned previously a 944 cabrio.
How did it compare to your Boxster, chassis wise , performance wise, torsion stiffness?
cheers
Patrick
I have just sold a May 2002 Boxster S with the following spec:
Full leather
18" GT2 wheels
Upgraded stereo
6 x Cd
Sat Nav/Tel
Cruise control
On board computer
PSM (stability control)
Litronics
Wind break
Unmarked bodywork etc.
Bought new 12 months ago - £45k - sold to the local dealer as p/x for £35750! I had it on offer for £36 with no takers. From my experience, you HAVE to go for the S (extra power, standard spec), do NOT buy a new one and haggle and you'll grab a bargain.
Presumably part of the depreciation on your S was due to the release of the new model. Buying an older one only makes sense if one is not bothered about the MY2003 improvements.
The p/x process was pretty painful with the local dealer. He initially wanted to give me £34k, however after having a row or two he improved his offer. If you read the motoring press Porsche reduce in value by 12% per annum over the 1st 3 years, but it is always difficult to achieve that figure from an OPD. They did argue that the original p/x was low because of the milage (13k) and the new model had just arrived and also they had a glut of used Boxsters in the UK. I didn't accept his arguement and reminded him I was also about to spend 70k with him on a new car! and when I did deliver it to him we had a chat and he informed me that my car would be gone quicker than a Iraqi leader chased by the SAS due to the shortage of good quality cars in the UK.......make you mind up mate!
I still think the old model is great and the changes to the new don't warrent the difference in cost if you are on a budget bearing in mind the second hand cars that are about.
With regard to colour, seal is great (that's the colour of my new C2 Cab) silver is too common and dark colours show all of the stone chips/muck etc.
Good luck either way.

Do you want the performance or the options? I bought a 2.7 a couple of years back and it's been brilliant - can't fault it. In part I think that's because the spec I chose was exactly what I wanted. For most of my driving I can't use any extra power so I think I did the right thing (for me).
Having said that, I'm going to upgrade in a year or so for the S - but only when I can afford to get the right options.
It all comes down to personal taste and finances. If you value performance then go for the S and fit the options around your budget. If like me, your finances have a ilmit but you want the toys - go for the 2.7. It's still quick and handles beautifully. In either case you won't regret it.
Cheers
Andy
Of COURSE you should buy the S. Its more powerful - which is nice...and has more toys as standard. If you add up the equipment list you would need to add to the 2.7 to make it an 'S' it makes the S look good value - as its the only way to get the uprated power and brakes.
Buy one NOW!
If you buy a 2.7 Boxster you'll enjoy it, but when you see an S you'll think......
Hmmm I could've had one of those.
Toys are toys, you can get them added at any time, get the S, you know it makes sense
As mentioned on my last post I have ordered a 2.7 but am now thinkning about getting a S but with less options, I have £40k to spend!
What would you do?
