Leading evidence: 'likely' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'likely' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Use 560ma/' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Anyone else having this problem ? Everytime I connect something to my 12v Accessory plug, at the passenger's side 12V it blows the fuse.

POST 2Original post

Every time? What are you plugging-in? What size fuse? How many amps it is supposed to draw? Does it also blow when the cig-lighter socket is used?

POST 3Original post

Yeah, everytime. I'm plugging a radar detector. Passport Escort 9500ix. On Full power it uses -- 560mA/ And no, it works perfectly on the cig-lighter

POST 4Original post

OK, that says there's a short in the wiring to that socket (assuming that the power transformer is not defective and drawing way more than it should). You might try some other plugged accessory to see it that also blows the fuse (better get a bunch of them). Does it blow immediately? Make sure there isn't something inside the socket cylinder that could short the center (hot) to that side (ground). If that's not it, then I'd remove that side piece of the console. It's pretty easy. I believe it is just one torx screw, mostly hidden in the carpet fibers. Once that is removed you can slip out the carpeted piece. Then you can access the back of the socket and it's wiring. Also trace the wires back into the center console and look for any cut/chaffing or sign of it being pinched. Hopefully a short will be obvious.

POST 6Original post

You have a short somewhere. If you have a multimeter, you can check to see if there is a short in the 12V plug or the radar detector wiring. If not, try plugging different accessiors into that 12V outlet. If they don't blow the fuse, then the problem is likely with your radar detector/wiring. You can try plugging your radar detector into another car's jack that has the same fuse rating and see if that blows. I don't recommend intentionally blowing fuses to troubleshoot however. In the absence of a fluke, this is an alternative. Good luck.

POST 7Original post

Your answer is in the post a couple above yours. I included it for you. HTH :naughty:

POST 8Original post

The contacts in the cigarette lighter socket are configured differently than those in the 12V accessory socket. It is quite possible your plug shorts in one and not in the other. If you have another device with a 12V plug, see if that causes any problem in the 12V accessory socket before you start dismantling the car.

POST 9Original post

OK, I have a pretty BAD short at the passenger's 12V. Didn't even plugged anything in and saw a spark just by touching the glove box. Thanks for the help!
