Crossing my fingers since i already have them, they are some of the better tested 8" midbasses
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Has anyone installed an 8" midbass speakers in our
cayman
doors?
I want to know if we have some depth to work with i have some really nice 8"midbass aftermarket speakers taht i want to swap out. but i need about 4" in depth otherwise i start getting in to a lot of fabbing.
The cut out is for a 7" speaker, you'd have to do some serious mods to fit an 8" speaker in the door

thanks
i know my installer is not too concerned with the circumference he is more concerned with the close to 4" depth that i need
i have some Peerles SLS which are some of the best midbass ever tested. Im doing a full system going fully active
10" critical mass Diamond Audio 1200 watt amp
8" midbass Peerless Diamond audio 700.4 150 watt per channel
4" midrange Diamond audio 700.4 100 watts per channel
1" tweeter Diamond audion 700.4 100 watts per channel
Alpine PxE H650 processor
Pioneer
X920BT DOUBLE DIN.
It should sound pretty sweet.
my only concern is the midbass as everything else except for the 1 of the amps and processor has been installed.
Depth will be an issue. There is a post on here where someone did take a pic of the depth there. When installing my system I held a JL 8 that I had in that spot to see if it would fit and I seem to remember that with the magnet sitting all the way to the door, I would need to build a 2 inch spacer. Not to mention any cone travel room once the panels were installed.
That said you could certainly do it if you find a thinner mount speaker.
Do a search on door speaker if you haven't already.
Otherwise, it doesn'e take long at all to tak ethe door panel off and measure yourself. There is an indepth step by step of that process.
Awesome I think if it entails making spacers and allocating room for mid bass movement and I can still get the door panels on then it's a great day! I'm at almost 4" depth w those midbasses
I installed Focal Access 210CA1 in the doors. I had to perform minor surgery to "top mount" them in the factory speaker baskets, and to the underside of the door panel as well. These speakers are spec'ed at 3-3/8" depth (top mount.)
The door panels don't quite sit flush to the door frames (roughly 1/4" gap at the bottom.) I could probably obtain that 1/4" by removing the Focal speaker gaskets (only used to seal a bottom mount,) and by trimming away the metal flanges, but I chose not to go any further. I wouldn't recommend 4" deep speakers, unless you're willing to do additional surgery to the door panels to make room for them.
I'd highly recommend a 200-mm speaker, if you can find one that suits your needs.
my peerless sls are specd above 4" but my installer thiks he can make it work. Crossing my fingers since i already have them, they are some of the better tested 8" midbasses
im hoping since im going active everything will come to life rather nicely.

R I had 9" Morels in there they were the 3 way 9 "Elates. Make sure you use something like POR-15 on the edges you cut or your doors are going to rust out on you. Don't ask me how I know.

As a matter of fact i believe the peerless are 9" midbass i really like them.
Those Morel Elates are just incredible i had a set but mine were not the 9"
My installer/ friend made special attachments and rings and did a superb job of installing them on the doors, we didn't think they would fit as the Peerless XLS look more like mini subwoofers.
I traded up the Morels for a set of Focal Utopia Be #6's. I had a Morel Ultimo 8" sub in the rear hatch. Morel speakers need a lot of power to sound good, I was not running enough power. I was using a Focal Dual Monitor amp.

is pretty awesome as well! If you could give me the prices of the speakers, amp and any other pieces you needed to buy to put together your stereo. Do you have any instal pictures I could show to my installer to see how comfortable he is with working on my car.
