This is not a probability of success.

I've been thinking about disconnecting the PAS completely, but today I tried coasting down a steep hill with the engine off to simulate no PAS and it's drivable but just a bit too heavy in tight corners to be pleasant.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is there any practical way to reduce the power assistance for the steering on our cars? I've been thinking about disconnecting the PAS completely, but today I tried coasting down a steep hill with the engine off to simulate no PAS and it's drivable but just a bit too heavy in tight corners to be pleasant. One option is an under drive main pulley, but my understanding from people who have them is that you can't really feel the reduction in terms of the steering assist. I think I'd want the assist cut by over 50%, leaving just enough to make the steering a bit more manageable in slow corners. Maybe a combination of undersized main pulley and oversized steering pump pulley? Any other options?
