After reading quite a number of threads dealing with folks who have replaced their OEM speakers with atermarket speakers, I thought it might be a good idea to have a single thread which lists the specific speaker manufacturer, model number, size, price and function (and maybe a small review) that 987 owners have successfully used in their cars. This might cut down on people having to look through a myriad threads and websites, i.e. crutchfield, amazon, ebay, etc.
One high-end system I have heard positive comments about (I haven't installed anything yet) is Dynaudio System 362. It's an 8" three-way component system. The sub requires a mounting ring, otherwise it's too deep. I think it costs around $1350. The subs and midranges go in the doors and the tweeters replace the corner dash OEM tweeters.
I've also read someone used a short-throw, 8" Pioneer (don't know the model number) sub for the doors.
Some posts (various sites) by people who have changed speakers. Please contribute links if you know of any.

Where are the links of those threads you read about? It would have been a good idea to include those since you are asking about making this a combo thread for future easy searches.
Good idea. I'll find them and post them in my original post.
I'm very interested in this thread too. I've been doing some research and shopping upgrade options for a complete Bose replacement (HU, amp, and speakers). One that I've seen mentioned that others have used is the
JL C5-653 (3-way component set, replacing both door speakers and the dash tweeter on each side). But, with a 6.5 in the door, I think I'd still want a real subwoofer tucked away somewhere.
Interested to hear what has worked well for others.
It would be very cool to establish some reference sticky posts for audio upgrades... especially with the Bose Audio since there are special considerations. I've been researching my own upgrade for the audio and trying to decide whether to do the MOST HUR adapter or bypass the Bose amp, and dealing with each of the speakers in the system has to be part of the equation.
If we can collect as many of these how to and informative threads into some logical order, it might make things much easier for future projects. I started to go through the old posts in the forum and scroll back to try to find some good posts... What I found was that some of the reference posts and web sites were now dead links, or were missing images or other information. An effort like this might be able to identify and preserve some of this info for future projects and future owners.
Well, I'll promise to document my decisions and progress when I start the upgrade! Probably a few months out still.
