Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm looking at a very nice
Cayman
at an OPc but the deal breaker is that I need Bluetooth in there and would prefer a fully integrated option rather than a Parrot etc.
So, is it possible to retrofit the
cdr-30
Bluetooth option as the dealer is telling me I can only have
PCM
at a cost of £3.5k!
Surely there's a way around it? Even if I take the car and spend £500 on top I'm not worried, just can't stomach 3.5k extra!!! (10% for a stereo!!!)
Otherwise there's a similar spec car with the
PCM
already installed and 19" rather than 18" wheels for 2k extra.
Any ideas?
Cheers, Alun
Ps first post so Hi!
Yes it is possible. When I was looking into buying a
Boxster
, one of my possibilities was a
Boxster
that did not have bluetooth, and it did not have the Nav either. The dealer, to sweeten the deal, said that the would add Bluetooth at no cost to me. I ended up buying another
boxster
due to color preference, but this definitively can be done and no, you do not need a Nav.
I enquired with 3
Porsche
dealers and a number of Forums.
Retrofitting the Bluetooth is not possible. But fitting a parrot kit or similar is. Or a
PCM
unit but that's very expensive!
I changed the car I was going to buy instead so I'm picking up a fully
PCM
'd car
next
week
thanks ...
can i just buy a PCM3.0 headunit and have it installed. Will i have BT , navigation n etc working. Is it just plug and play? what about the navigation anthena?
Did anyone find out if a bluetooth module could be added to the
CDR-30
?
I can't believe it's not possible - but I wonder how much this would cost?
In reality, the Bluetooth hardware may already be built into the
CDR-30
unit and it could just be a software key to unlock the functionality.
Anyone know any more?
I don't think they're compatible because of the screens. At any rate, a lot of money and fussing for something that will probably not work perfectly. The right way to do it would be to get
PCM
, preferably with
Bose
and install the whole thing. Not as expensive if you buy one that's pulled out of an interior being stripped to make a race car.
I would just buy a good bluetooth earpiece and use it in the car. Sound will probably be better. It's the fashion statement of the 21st century...blinking blue lights on your ear.
Many of us in the same situation have replaced the CDR30 with an aftermarket
Pioneer
or
Kenwood
NAV unit. It not only adds lots of functionality, but vastly improves the sound quality with the same factory speakers. There are already many treads on this.
I did the conversion myself, so the total cost was < $1000. While that might be more than just adding BT and iPod interfaces, it is a totally integrated solution - rather than an add-on. Plus you get NAV and better sound.
BTW: If done correctly (with a harness adapter), it is easily reversible to return everything to stock.
Just some useful information regarding this question. I have a 2009 Gen 2
cayman
witch I was to install aux/ipod/USB connection to. I bought the cabel ( Part nr 997.612.049 75 VERBINDUNGSLEITUNG) and the contact that's place in the centre consol. BTW, I only had a 24V socket in the console before. Thought I was a easy fix until I had the hole centre console dismantled. It was then I saw that the only contact I have in the back of my
CDR-30
is the one for the AUX port. That means I can't have Bluetooth and USB input. kind of shocked I tried to source the net for more information.
Very little out there about this and most of the people don't know what they are talking about. Some say it can be done, some say can't. Well here is the answer.
There are 2 types of
CDR-30
. One that only has the AUX output and one that has Both AUX, Bluetooth and USB. Unfortunately, I had the one with only AUX connection
So now I have ordered the right cable. I still have the connector for the centre console with the AUX/IPOD/USB connectors, this one will work since it also has the AUX connector. Dough it looks a little stupid with the connectors that don't work, I don't want to spend more money buying a new connector.
That having said. Here the part nr of the
CDR-30
witch has Bluetooth connection: 997.645.138.04.FTC
And the part nr of the one that DONT have Bluetooth and only AUX: 7L5035156M (Note: it has a different nr. NOT a 997 nr.)
PS! What's extremely stupid is that in
Porsche
PET catalogue, the only part nr mention there is the 997 and not the 7L5035156M. Also the wrong cable is listed there. No doubt people get confused :S
Hope my experience can help other people. Please contact me if there is any questions.
Thanks for posting the info. I can only add the following. I have a
CDR-30
with factory installed bluetooth and aux input. The aux input option for the CRD-30 only includes a 3.5 mm plug, no USB and no ipod input, as shown
here
. The Aux input option for the PCM 3.0 includes the 3.5mm, the USB and ipod inputs as shown
here
. You may have mistakenly purchased the aux input kit for the PCM. It seems bluetooth can only be added in the field to a PCM 3.0 unit as shown
here
. I have not seen any factory bluetooth retrofit kit for the CRD-30.
Hello
You are completely 100% correct there! The same experience as me
To prevent any misunderstanding for others, this treat should have been posted as a "example" tread under electronics. Hope no one else does the same mistake as me. The worst part about this story, is the crappie
Porsche
Center here back home. Witch didn't let me return the parts in return of what I really had ordered. That's bad service:S The parts where not even opened!
