I use the 80 minute CDs but my Roxio software allow me to choose 74 or 80 min format.

For the second time, I used the cd player in the cdr-24.

gfspencer's advice above is the first thing to try - if that doesn't do it, then you need to take it to the dealer and have the unit replaced under warranty.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I recently took my car into the shop to have them fix my "frozen" radio unit. Apparently, if you play burned music cd's in your CDR-24 it causes the system to freeze. If you eject the disc, it snaps back to normal. In my case, even after ejecting the disk, the radio functions wouldn't work either.
That being said, I have a new radio (on my way to pick up now). However, I'm a little disappointed that a car at this price tag can't play my favourite mix-cd's that I make. Does anyone know if there was a firmware update, or perhaps a recall, on this particular radio unit?
What brand/color/quality of cdrs are you using? Before I upgraded to my
PCM
, I played burnt cds constantly. The only problem that I had was the stop message occasionally. It seems like something else is wrong with the equation.
I've been using self-burned CD-Rs for almost 2 years without any trouble... Never had a "stop" message... I've had a CD or two skip, but when tested in other players, they skipped, too. One of the secrets I think, is buying and using high-quality CD-Rs, and keeping them clean and scratch-free.

You can see how bad info gets propagated. The TSB implies that there is some inherent issue with CDRs. That gets translated into a service tech telling people, "You ain't supposed to use no burnt CDs"
In fact is simple. Scratched/ dirty media.
As the father of a small tribe of children, I have developed a habit of flipping optical disks over to check for "monkey prints".
It is also illustrative of the kind of intelligent troubleshooting that occurs in dealership laboratories. Warranty swaptronics.
Which reminds me of the guy from the hills who ventured into town to buy a new saw to cut down some trees. The hardware salesman noticed this gentleman looking at saw and asked if he could help. "I need to cut down some trees," replied the gentleman from the hills.
"What you need is a chainsaw. You can cut down a tree in a minute.", said the salesman.
"Well that sure is a lot more money than I wanted to spend, but if I can cut a tree in a minute...I'll take her.", said the gentleman.
About a week later the man from the hills returned to the store with the chainsaw. He found the salesman and said, "You, sir, are a liar. I have been cutting trees for as long as I could stand and it took me 8 hours to cut down ten trees with this saw. I'd like my money back and an apology."
The salesman looked puzzled and said, "Here, let me take a look." He primed the saw and pulled the starter. The saw buzzed to life. At that, the hill billy leaped backwards, falling against a display of tools yelling, "Lord...what be that noise?"

Just took mine in today because it would not stop playing a cd
(brand new out of the wrapper). It was stuck in the on position, could not eject, turn-off, adjust the VOLUME, which to radio... I tried everything. At least it was a CD I liked "past tense" (James Morrison). It happened on a local
Cayman
ride (on the way up the hill).
Did get to see some crazy
Cayman
owner that had the dealer (
Pioneer
) do a X51 converison to his Silver '06. He already had them do a
GT3
nose conversion. (factory version, nose, fenders, light buckets.) We all need that guy's income.
I had the same problem as well
Not only burnt cds
But just randomly the unit was doing it
Regular music cd's (factory original)
Burnt
etc didn't matter
I solved the problem though.
Got the Avic D3 installed
No problems
This is not a new problem. The CD player in my 2001
Boxster
would "freeze" when I tried to play burnt CDs. I didn't think about taking it in to the dealership. I would just pull the fuse. When I put the fuse back in the CD player would eject the CD and everything operated again.
Not only did my CD freeze on the same CD - The volume went all the way up and stuck there!!! I could not turn it down. I could not eject it. I could not change back to radio. NOTHING. Are you ready??? I'll share my secret with you. It has worked twice for me.
Take another CD and kinda gently bump the one inside - Like you trying to put it in. Then turn the air conditioner on and say a little prayer and then you can eject the CD!!!! The little red light to the side will stop blinking and it will reset itself.

gfspencer's advice above is the first thing to try - if that doesn't do it, then you need to take it to the dealer and have the unit replaced under warranty. I've been playing burned CDs in my unit for more than 2.5 years, and not had any problems, they play just fine.
brad
Didn't we have a poll about this at one point? I'm going on 2.5 years as well and have never had a problem like this. I don't use cdrs much anymore because of my Dension, but I still have a burnt cd in the player and it works every time I try it.
If you are having problems, I'd suggest looking at the 1) Quality of the cdrs and 2) the speed at which you burn them. Burning a disk at 24x or faster doesn't create the same quality disk as a slower burn. I'd suggest a slow burn (4x) and a good quality disk. Can't hurt to try.
Re: CDR-24 "Stop" Error Message
I am having a similar problem -- the CDC-4 connected to my CDR-24 unit gives me the error "CDC Stop" when I try to engage the CD changer. The problem occurs with any type of CD and nothing will play. Has anyone else encountered this problem and found a solution? Thanks.
Re: CDR-24 "Stop" Error Message
They're kind of picky (that's being kind) - I load mine up for the long trips I take to the Porsche Parade and other events, and sometimes I'll put a magazine in and the head unit is fine, except it doesn't think there's any CDs in the there... stuff like that. In that case I ejected the magazine, twirled it around in the air (after checking to see if the CDs were in correctly) and shoved it back in, and it worked. I've only had it totally freeze once, and I think it got too hot - I had it on continuously for a 12 hour day - and it started working again after 20 minutes.
Good luck,
brad
Resurrecting an old thread-
For the second time, I used the cd player in the cdr-24. The first cd (commercially bought) played fine. The second would not read. Three others we had in the car also would not play (all commercial, none burned). Stopped for lunch, tried again. Worked this time! Does letting the cd section cool off by not using it help?
Later the same drive (over 6 hr) we put in different cd's. Some would play right away, some had to wait 20 minutes before they would work.
Too bad this thing won't play MP3's.
I may be wrong but it sounds as though the laser may be misaligned. I realise this may not be possible but do you know anyone with another
Cayman
?
Alternatively, go to the dealer and either get them to fix it or at the very least, ask them to try your CDs in another
Cayman
.
I've had Toyotas and Fords with better audio equipment. When I bought a
Boxster
with the
CDR24
I quickly decided it was a piece of rubbish so I replaced it with an all-singing-all-dancing
Pioneer
SatNav unit with hard disk for my music and total phone integration.
The
CDR24
is not worthy of the
Porsche
brand, but I hope someone can come up with an answer for you
bigwong
.
The TSB for this subject is ridiculous.
Porsche
basically blames the user for using "faulty" CDs in its stereos.
I went back and forth with
Porsche
for a long time on this issue from 2005 through 2006. They kept blaming my CDs, even if they were scratch- and fingerprint-free. They'd say things like "They must not be standard CDs--they have to have the Compact Disk logo on their surface", etc.
I was very disappointed in their attempts to blame me for their equipment failures. None of my CDs have any problems playing in any of my equipment, not even on the most finicky unit I own (a $1500 CD player).
Anyhow, in the end we worked something out, but they never admitted to being wrong, of course.
Unfortunately, some dealers put you through a song-and-dance. when they work right, you can definitely use burned CDs - that's all I use in mine (non-
PCM
) and it's played everything I've put in there for 3.5 years. One thing I've found with almost all players is if you use good brand-name disks, you'll have a lot better luck.
brad
I get the stop message intermitantly and on random disks ( retail disks ), course every time I go to the dealer it won't happen... At least it isn't just me.. I have to just keep reinserting it until hopefully it plays.
