Hello all,
I have been searching through the forums looking for any info regarding just a simple 3.5mm auxillary cord for the stock CS stereo. I see that most of you use iPods, and have purchased systems like the "Dension" so that you can control and charge the iPod through the stereo. I, however, use a Palm Treo Pro for my music playback, and I don't need anything fancy to control or charge it. I didn't see any threads regarding just a simple cable to the stock system, and I was wondering if anybody had any advice here. Also, do you have to get a special tool to pull the head unit? I am a complete novice at working with stereos in cars. Thanks for any advice!
To the best of my knowledge, what you are looking for does not exist in pre-2009 models (anything with a CDR24 or earlier). The CDR24 has an Aux input for the telephone which could be used for other purposes, but it is only MONO. In the 2009 with the CDR30, there is an Aux input which is STEREO. There is not however much community experience with these regarding aftermarket upgrades.
Thank you Timbucthree. That stinks. Why the heck wouldn't a company make an auxillary input on a stereo? Eh, I guess that explains why everyone here is using the FM modulators. Guess I'll try the motorola. Thanks again.:thanks:
The hardwired FM modulators with a notch filter, I am familiar with work pretty well. The audio purists will trash them but I frankly can't tell the difference between a CD played on the CDR24 and a CD played on my 10 disk changer through a hardwired FM modulator. I would not go with a broadcast version.
Even Porsche's AUX input option that they came out with in 2008 is via hardwired FM modulator. I don't know whether that was changed for 2009 with the CDR30, but the CDR30 does have direct stereo AUX In available on the rear connector.
Thanks again, Timbucthree. I went out today and bought the Motorola T505. Unfortunately, I came from a Mitsubishi Eclipse with the best stereo system the company had to offer, and I can tell a huge difference in the quality of the music coming through. I have decided I'm going to play downloaded lectures over the system and get my learnin' on, rather than listen to music. Eh, oh well. Thanks again!
I agree Porsche's Bose is a major disappointment... but they have put something far better just right behind you; the roaring engine!!! That no stereo company can offer you
Does the PCM have an aux input or is it faced with the same issue?
If you have 2009 model, then your PCM would have an aux input. If you have an older model, you need to install an iPod interface to have one.
I have the same situation with a CDR24. Who makes some of the FM modulators? Thanks
Just to give you a bit of info, I have a new gen 2 Boxster with the CDR30, I had the addtisonal 3.5 jack point fitted in the center consul, well it came as an extra with the car, they chucked in for free. I tried my Ipod on it and it works ok, but its no good to charge it or anything like that. And the sound quality is ****. If your lucky enough to have the PCM3 then they do a kit which gives full Ipod control I pod cable and even a USB point in the center consul. Im in the proccess of removing the CDR30 and fitting an Avic D3 which I use to use in my older boxster, I removed the CDR24 there are loads of kits and info on this subject. No one has come up with fitting kits yet for the CDR 30, I nearly have it all worked out, and will upd ate everyone onces it fitted and working. There will be kits comming soon to fit after markets in the Gen 2 Boxster and Cayman. These guys are realy help full. Even though im in the UK.
