Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I've got a used PCM 2.1 (w/o nav) from MY05 997 from ebay. At the time I won the bidding I hadn't searched the forum but the thing is more complicated than I thought after I searched the forum. I have Bose stereo and I was lucky that the unit came from the 997 with Bose . (I didn't know that an unit from non- Bose won't support Bose amplifier .) What I'm concerning is that some early PCM 2.1 doesn't support mp3 cds. Here's some information of the unit I got. Date of Manufacture: 28/04 Part no. 997.642.133.05 Does this unit support mp3?? I found a thread that 997.642.103.xx won't support and 997.642.143.xx support but I'm not sure about 997.642.133.xx which is my case. Since the first reason was mp3 capability, I might re-sell it with the same price I got ($500) if it doesn't. Thank you.

POST 2Original post

I thought it was 2.0 that didn't support MP3 and 2.1 that did? You could always just try it out and if it works great, if not, resell it.

POST 4Original post

Thank you. It seems that this unit doesn't support mp3

POST 5Original post

from the link not sure if a software update will enable MP3 playback... its worth a shot though, esp w/ the low price you picked up the PCM unit for.

POST 6Original post

quick google search yielded this thread: http://www.planet-9.com/cayman-boxs.../cayman-boxster-electronics/31901-multimedia-update-disk-porsche-pcm-2-1-a.html in short, it looks like it is not possible to update your unit for mp3 support.

POST 7Original post

I think the only way for mp3 is now Dension Gateway, but I'm not sure if spending another $500 (right?) is a good idea. Thank you for the replies!

POST 8Original post

I have a PCM from a 2005 997, it's not mp3 compatible but I have the Denison and I LOVE it, ipod connectivity is so much better than mp3 cd's. The Denison has really good iPod navigation. Sometimes I also just hook in a laptop bus-powered hard drive to the usb port on the Denison and play music through that.

POST 9Original post

I installed it a few days ago. There's this article by K-Man which is really great. mp3 doesn't work. But looks great! totally worth $500. I won't sell it The software version is 1.0, it seems the previous owner hadn't upgraded software at all. It has some error message (CDC not found, which I don't have and version difference of Bose amplifier ) but works fine. Sounds, screen all work as it should do. I'll visit near porsche dealer to set the code. Thank you~
