So, woke up on Saturday morning and the weather in Brizzol was, er, sh!t - and we didn't have a garage to do the work in; so - with necessity being the mother of invention, I used a tarp to save the day :thumb:

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

'afternoon all So, some time ago, I became very inspired by Leon's wonderful post about retor fitting cruise and i bought a 4-stalk indicator and cruise control unit off of eBay; must be close on a year ago now and decided to fit it over the weekend. When I say 'I' what I mean is my son, Sam  Bought all the parts from Leon's superb write up; if you haven't read this thread I highly recommend it: http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=115078&highlight=cruise Had everything ready to go when my son came down to see me for the Easter weekend. So, woke up on Saturday morning and the weather in Brizzol was, er, sh!t - and we didn't have a garage to do the work in; so - with necessity being the mother of invention, I used a tarp to save the day :thumb: Photo1 by Mike O , on Flickr The hardest job for 'us' was getting the steering wheel off as the hex bolts in the back of the steering wheel seemed bloody tight and we weer concerned about stripping the hex heads. Photo3 by Mike O , on Flickr It was at this point that we had a slight stall in that, when we came to open the socket set - the biggest socket was 22m and, of course, we needed at 24m socket - so a quick trip to Halfrauds and we were back in business. For a very short time - we also needed an extender bar as the ratchet wont fit on the socket without one... :frustrated: Eventually got that off and cleaned the surface area behind it and the instrument binnacle Photo4 by Mike O , on Flickr Sam then installed the replacement indicator/cruise unit and connected all the wires up before reinstalling all of the bits... Here's the new unit installed. Photo6 by Mike O , on Flickr So now we have the whole lot installed and it just needs coding by OPC Bristol - now going to do this until i get the new drivers seat switch installed, which needs programming, too. Is everything great....?? No! Suddenly discovered that the indicator unit stays on when you turn left but not when you turn right... :frustrated: Moral of the lesson - if you chose to do this and you buy a until off eBay check that the indicators work properly on the damn thing when you buy it.... So that gives me another thing that needs fixing (any tips on how to fix this much appreciated... :thumb: ) At the same time we also swapped out the gear lever. Some time ago I bought a SSK off of eBay which worked great for a year or so but, on the way back from Dinslaken last year, the bushes failed and I had to buy a second hand standard unit. I sent the failed unit up to AY Engineering in Blackburn - Abdul Yates Engineering, who did a superb job on swapping the bushes out and getting it working again. :thumb: :thumb: Big thanks to Abdul - superb job, sir! So - couple of more jobs to do before Dinslaken: - refurbished wheels - new PS2's - slight ding in the paint work here someone had opened the door on me - get the roof cleaned properly as it has some mould stains - get the switch and cruise programmed She'll then be looking well nice ready for Germany :thumb: Osh

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

...almost forgot... A new high level brake light - mine is all greyed out and looks pathetic. New one on order from Design911 :thumb: Osh

POST 4Original post

That is a common fault - the cancel feature breaks so much as breath on it! Buy new (but you have probably figured that out!!)

POST 5Original post

I suspect you can swap the individual stalk / switch out of your old one. But that means doing the job again!

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Evening m8 - sadly not. Checked that earlier but can't be done. osh

POST 7Original post

Great work Osh - but shame the indicator switch has failed. All part of the adventure. Cracking work on the SSK by AY too. You'll lurrrve those alpine passes much more this time I suspect

POST 9Original post

Great Thead Osh, pain the stalks duff . I was reading another thread about AY engineering (oooop norf division ) We are hoping he decides to expand operations and can bring himself to trade with us softies ,as the mod he does for the SSK looks great . See you in Germany mate mines a pint   :thumb:

POST 10Original post

Thanks for the praise Osh...glad the guide was of use and looks like it all went well apart from the indicator problem. Plus looked like a good father son weekend! That exact reason was what led me to do the job in the first place! (Blessing in disguise).

POST 11Original post

Ah yes you are right, its the OBC stalk that can be unscrewed and removed.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Absolutely Phil - AYE are great and the guy who runs the place, Abdul, is a nice chap too... :floor: Seriously - the short shifter feels just superb! Just need to get the indicator stalks sorted... :dont know: Osh

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cheers Leon - top man :thumb: Osh
