It was the first time that I have ever seen wood in a 911 that didn't look like after effects of a tsunami.

I've been offered a white Cayman R with great spec, waiting to get a test drive in Guildford's demo before deciding if it's worth 35k more than my S.

I test drove one back in the day for one of the Porsche magazines when it first came out, they were comparing it to my 968CS I then owned (why they felt the R was a modern version of the CS I’m still not sure of as they were worlds apart) it was however the colour for the car at that time for sure.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
43 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

I'm still not completely sure about Peridot myself, but then it's a bit moot since I already have my car, and it's red
You might want to change your thread title or at least add a '?' - it won't help your cause when people are searching PH or googling for discussions on the colour in the future!
I like it myself, it's the 'signature' colour for the car.
I don't think you'd have any problems with that colour - it looks great! As has been mentioned, the launch cars were in it, so that colour will become synonymous with the Cayman R.
On the contrary, I think it will add value, synonymous with the CR.
Has the colour not been withdrawn because of issues with it at the factory though ?
But , in any case, best colour for the car and I'd be looking for one if or when I go for a CR .....
I've read on here about possible paint issues with peridot but only on here, so I think it's worth asking the question before you buy it in this colour. FWIW, I think it looks really good on the Cayman R. Just make sure you stick with the standard bucket seats.

I think this colour looks the dogs bollix on the Cayman R. I think you'd want whipping to refuse a Peridot R imho
+1 - just make sure to get PCCBs on it, even if it is just for the yellow calipers that go so well with this shade of green
The argument that Peridot will be synonymous with the Cayman R doesn't hold as much water as it once did, since you can now spec this colour across the entire Cayman range.
Personally I think that Porsche should have kept it specifically for the R until the next gen car appears.
It seems strange to bring in a totally new colour for a specific model launch, then before that model even hits the street, offer said colour across other models.

Peridot is free on R but £615 for other Caymans.

I heard that they have dis-continued Peridot green on the Cayman R.
I think it was on hold for a while and disapeared off the configurator. Its back now. The car I am looking at is physical built.

They removed it from the configurator for a while as they had problems with it, but it is back on there and available again now.
ETA: Beaten to it by Chins!

I know that, but originally Peridot was ONLY available on the R unless you went down the PTS route.
Now that it's basically a standard metallic colour on the other Caymans, it won't be as much of a signature for the R.
Let's face it, most Porsche buyers don't seem to mind paying the extra for metallic, hence the amount of Basalt Black and Silver cars out there.
I dont really buy into the launch colour effect...
Exhibit A (rarer than RHP)
Exhibit B (in 1996 this was the future but it hasn't aged particularly well IMO)
Peridot reminds me of my Dad's old Hilman Hunter and it has to qualify as a Marmite colour - which isn't a bad thing per se.
However in a year or two's time, how many OPC's would want to have two, or even three, of them on their forecourt in that colour at the same time?
I saw a 911 turbo in London last summer finished in this colour.
Stunning car. I would have one (asuming i could afford it) and might even pay over the odds the odds for it.
There is chocolate coloured interior to match too.
Not to be confused with

I too have seen a C4S cab in that colour combo and it even had all the wood options: steering wheel, centre console etc. I can't recall which wood finish it was (there were three available) but I do remember thinking that it looked very harmonious and dare I say it appealing. It was the first time that I have ever seen wood in a 911 that didn't look like after effects of a tsunami.
If I had deep pockets I would PTS a new Porsche in that non-metallic Blu Pozzi colour that you occasionally see on Ferrari's and to hell with any residual value consideration but I would probably keep away from any wood options (I'm not sure that they are still available, in any case).
i went down to reading porsche hq a few days ago to spec my new cayman r
peridot doesn't look to good in daylight..guards red or speed yellow
looks fantastic..with black wheels.

agree. Speed yellow suits the Cayman shape amazingly well

I reckon even without having driven an R I can answer that one...
So Peridot doesnt look stunning in the flesh, White will go out of fashion, Red and Yellow - just cant do it. Black is a pain to keep clean and swirl free.
So what colour will look great ?

It looks good in that metallic blue on the configurator.

Amethyst metallic or platinum silver

It will look great in any of the colours in the configurator. My choices would be either Speed Yellow or Peridot though.
Not normally a fan of Speed Yellow, but I think it looks great on the R with the contrasting black features. I think the R needs paintwork that stands out - I personally wouldn't go for those colours on a regular Cayman or an S.
ETA: Not such a fan of the dark colours on the Cayman R, as I don't think the contrasting white decals and spoiler look as good as the black does with the light colours.

Not seen peridot in the metal, but not bowled over by the pics.
I think speed yellow is the colour for the R. It just makes the contrasts stand out and gives the car some added exotic-ness.
But then the ceramic yellow calipers would be needed to colour code and that is even more expense.
Helps it stand out from an S.

I thought I’d answer this question in 2022, 11 years since it was raised.
My 2011 987.2 Cayman R is in peridot green. 57k miles in and the paint is as good as new. The car is worth more than its original purchase price and drives as well as ever.
It’s a beauty to look at and to drive.
If you’re thinking of getting a Porsche in peridot, just do it. It’s a Porsche.
Until you have tried to sell it though you don't really know what it's worth though? Or if the colour turns buyers away or conversely you have to beat them off with a broom!

When I bought a year a go I discounted Peridot eventually. White is safest color IMO.

Just like my old car …
That was and still is the R colour . P.S I wasn’t overly keen on the Cayman. I was gobsmacked it rattled so much inside . My old CS at 15 years old was still as tight inside as the day it was built.
PPS. The CS was the best handling old skool Porsche I’ve owned … it was just 50hp short to make it really great. Fond memories though to this day.
