I'm running 265s on the back for my winter tires (per Porsche recommendations)!

Hmmm, I've been running 14mm front and haven't noticed anything.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I just got a set of 5-spoke OEM wheels for 996 NB.
18x8 ET50
18x10 ET65
I am downsizing from 19s, and I think I am going to need spacers. Does anybody know what spacers will I need, so when the wheels get here I can have available already?
I have a set of 17mm techart spacers that I am currently running on the 19s. So if this ones fit, I'd just need the fronts.
Car is A 1999 nb C2, lowered to euro stock specs: euro springs, 10mm lower on front than USA cars. Rear same standard now lowered.
Really depends on ride height and camber and tire width. In general, 13mm(10 wide, 52mm offset) will look good. You might be able to pull of a 17mm depending on ride height/camber/tire.
You don't need spacers with the sizes and offsets you mentioned. You certainly can add them if you want, but it's just a matter of personal preference.
If no spacers, better of course. But I like wheels flush. I will setup a very conservative camber, daily driver and tired of burning through tires so quickly from the inside.
What size tires you are planning on? You shouldn't need any spacers if you use stock tire sizes, and if you want to go larger, you might have a reduced need in the rear as the tire is already wider and possibly increased need in the front to ensure you clear the suspension and wheel wells at full lock.
Tire combo suggestions I've made note of for a NB 996:
225/40-18, 285/30-18 (oem. I've seen 7mm F and 14mm rear or 14F 14R spacers suggested for your wheel offsets)
245/35-18, 295/30-18 (Suggested to put a bit more tire on the car, reduce understeer, and fill the wheel wells a bit more)
245/35-18, 285/30-18 (even better under/oversteer balance)
235/40-18, 295/30-18 (oem GT3 MKI sizing)
I've even seen thread where people were stuffing 265's in the front and 305's in the rear , but that might need exactly the right offset and rolling the fenders... and not accomplish much.
I might start a new thread specifically on tire size / wheel offset / spacer size combo's as I'm working on some changes as well...
Dennis,
how does the car look on 265? I am not obsessed with cramming as much as I can back there. As a matter of fact, with the limited power of a 99, I don't think I would utilize the potential of 305, for example.
Following pbfz's, I was thinking 245/35-18, 285/30-18... until I read your post about 265 for winter. I would be using the same 10" wide rears in winter.

It looks fine. For the C4S, Porsche recommends a 10x18 rear wheel for winter. I'm running Sport Technos with a 48mm offset. I added 17mm OEM spacers in the rear and it looks good.
In the summer, I will go back to 11x18 rear wheels with 295 width tires and no spacers.
Just measure it.
Take a ruler and place it on the outside of your wheel /tire and then determine where you want your wheel to sit.
That I distance is your spacer size.
Yeah, measuring is fool proof. I am trying to purchase spacers if I need them, so mechanic can do all at once. I am shipping the wheels from one location, the tires from another one, and... wanted to ship spacers to him as well. I am 100 miles from my mechanic that's why. Can always install spacers myself later but wanted to do it all at once. The amount of variables is making it hard.
Bump,
I came across this member's photos a while back. The fitment is perfect for my taste! Its been almost 2 months and I still have not been able to get a hold of this guy. :/

If you want a stance like that, you need a 23mm rear spacer and a14mm front spacer, it wasnt easy figuring it out, but i did and now i have 18x8.5 et38 front and 18x10 et35 rear
Quote:
Hi Nitro,
I'd like to know more, it seems like you've got it all figured out!
With that stance, did you have to roll fenders? How about tire sizes? Wheel camber, etc?
Also, could you provide pictures?
Id really appreciate your help. Thank you.
Suspension is all stock except h&r springs, 18x10 rear with 265/35/18 and 18x8.5 with 225/40/18 front, no rubbin but very close, fenders are NOT rolled yet but i will have em done,
Thanks
Hey Nitro,
You mentioned the tires being very close to the fender, would possibly 235 front and 295 rear be able to fit?
Photos of this setup would be terrific if its not too troublesome.

Ended up with:
18x8 ET50 225
18x10 ET65 285
camber front 1.2 rear 1.2
rear spacers 17mm (techart)
front spacers 14mm (hr). front fenders were rolled so I had not even to think about rub.
Suspension, euro height: US stock rear, and in front is 10mm lower. Koni fsd's and stock euro springs.
Not sure if I like it better than rears 15mm and fronts 7mm. I tried both. Will use for a while. Car feels more planted.

Hey Tarzan the stance looks significantly better. Are you running stock tire sizes (225 f and 285 r)? Think you could go any wider (spacers) on the rear?
Looking good my friend.
Quote:
Tx. Yes oem sizes.
I guess you could add a couple of mm specially with more camber. Techart goes a bit more. But I think very quickly it starts to look funny. I tried 17 rear and 7 front, and the visual effect made the rears look outside of the fender. 14 rear and 7 front was more balanced. I did put the 14 in front just in case, and then the rears happened to look ok. That is why I am saying I am not sure which I like better, 7/14 or 14/17. Probably 14/14 or 15/15 is safe and balanced. I have been staring at them for too long. We shall see in a few days
thanks Tarzan just purchased 265/35 in a Bridgestone Re 760 the they seem stretched(low rider style) in the rear and looking to go wider... the Continental's that were on the car fit fine in that size.
will a 295/30 fit seems like a closer match to the stock height 1.3% off Vs 2.33% for the 285's
15 is rubbing inner front fender at full lock. I guess that is why the most common setup in front is 7mm. I don't know if 01 and later cars have this issue. I have not checked if 7mm is the limit. I dont think there are spacers in between 7 and 14. Are there?
Ok, here is the deal:
Did remeasure the Techart spacers in the back: There are 15mm not 17mm as I thought. Confirmed, with techart part number on them. This is as far as you want to go, without rolling fenders, and with a conservative camber (less than 1.5 in my case).
Fronts: I did remeasure the 14mm spacers, were almost more like 13mm. Even so, they rubbed the inner liner at full lock. I did put a 7mm spacer, and they do not rub at full lock. Still, is VERY close to touching. But it does not. That's why most people do not go over 7mm.
15 and 7 it is. You can go wider in the front, and it might look cool... but why do something that is detrimental for the car's performance, maybe even dangerous? You could go into modifying the liner etc... for 7 additional mm? There is no way that 15mm will not rub at full lock. It has nothing to do with the height of the suspension, or camber.
Hope this helps. I am attaching pic of the 15mm rubbing.
Eugizzle, MKI. '99 C2. Front fenders are rolled, previous owner did it to fit those 19's the car came with. I think the rubbing of inner fender would be the same for both MKI and MKII.

Hey Tarzan, that's my exact thought. Though I saw from previous threads on this forum that mk2 has larger fender clearance than mk1. I am just as confused
Fender clearance maybe. But if the liners are the same which I think there are, front wheels will rub at full lock. Has nothing to do with fender clearance. Look at my pics.
No not yet but thanks for the reminder. My car is currently broken at the moment(submerged alarm brain module) but that doesn't prevent me from turning my wheels.
Ok, managed to get 15mm on front with no rubbing. At full lock, i could slide a paper receipt. That close. But that is at full lock which you just do u-turns at most. I did use a heat gun to push the inner wells. It really works and very easy. From 1 to 10 in difficulty, is a 2.
I followed this
DUBSandTIRES.com Heat Gun on wheel well - YouTube
. Used a hammer like he does. That took care of it very quickly.
Now I have 15mm Techart spacers on front and on rear.
