Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I installed a vdo oil temp and pressure gauge. Used a proper vdo temp sender. It's normal operating temp is about 130 degrees C.....266 Fahrenheit. This with ambient temp 15 to 20 degrees C....on the vdo. Track day yesterday and it was up to 160deg c....320 F.....hot! We plugged in durametric and when the vdo read 140 or so the dme oil temp from durametric was 105 C.....220F. Which would you believe?! Vdo oil temp sender is in cylinder head in my passenger side......your drivers side.

POST 2Original post

The two senders are in different locations, the VDO in the hotter cylinder head, the factory sensor is in the cooler sump. The are probably both correct, by the sump is more important as it represents the mass of the oil.

POST 3Original post

I have a VDO vision temp gauge and the sender at the same spot, up to around 200 the gauge agreed with the durametric reading. Normal operating temp for me is about 190-200 F for street driving. At the track I see 220-230'ish but have never compared with the durametric on track Yours sounds really high, there are multiple ranges of senders and associated gauges, maybe you have a mismatch?
