Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Think my Steering Rack or Hose has gone on my 2003 C4S 996 theres no hydraulic fluid in it, if I put some in is it possible to drive if say 15 miles to the garage or can I do more damage, thanks Noel

POST 2Original post

Ideally you don't want to run it dry. If you can see where it is coming from there may be a chance of slowing the leak before driving.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ive got 2 litres of Penicin and could put that in and only want to drive it 200 yards, even if its a massive leak would I be able to do that?

POST 4Original post

You don't want to run it dry as already said, pumps are £££ Generic chf11s is fairly cheap to chuck in but you don't want to be driving round with it pissing out (think of the motorbikers). I would get your breakdown to recover to a garage. Probably the rack hard lines if the fluid is at the front, not available from Porsche (they make you buy a rack). But they can be made up easily, or bought for under £40 - see the link below in my signature. Have them fit a new brake line there at the same time.

POST 5Original post

:agree: I was stiffed over £1000 by my local indie in High Wycombe for the lines, and when I got home only then did I realise they were the *exact* ones wasz has in his signature. Also, don't drive it - the pump has the tiniest vanes inside that melt instalntly, and then its major money to get a new one as the whole lot needs replacing.

POST 6Original post

My Power steering hard lines popped the ferrule a year or so ago, easy fix with jubilee clips if yours has suffered the usual problem with the pipes at the front. Thread here : http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=113948&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

POST 7Original post

Mine needs doing so I plan the Jubilee clip route. Sadly Infrasilver's pics have vanished with photobucket. Do you leave the old clip on under the Jubilee clips or cut the remains off?

POST 8Original post

I put 2x stainless jubilee clips over the old cracking ferrule. One end is accessible from the wheel arch. Don't forget to also do the other end of that pipe at the rack.

POST 9Original post

The PS reservoir only holds a few mls of fluid too, so you cant just stick 2L in there and crack on. wasz, did you repair the rack end too or just put jubo clips on?

POST 11Original post

Yes just put two genuine (wide) jubilee clips over the existing ferrule, open them up to get them over the pipe. Do you have a link for that thread and I'll try to update the pictures? :thumb:

POST 12Original post

So I can check mine and maybe fit the Jubilee clips myself as preventative maintenance, can someone describe (or better still a pic) where the bit is? Edit- sorry, found it at the bottom of Kurlykris's thread...

POST 13Original post

Thanks Infrasilver, Kurlychris had posted it above: http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=113948&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 Pics are photobucket and I can't open them.

POST 14Original post

Just to reiterate - you should also check the other end of that hose - mine also had a split ferrule here. Just do the same with a couple of stainless jubilee clips. Just drop the under tray and you can see it, drop the ARB to get access. Also lets you inspect the rack hard lines and brake pipe (mine was ) while you are there.

POST 15Original post

Sorry I didn't realise it was in that thread, I thought I also did a DIY thread on this? Here is the fix after 5 years (as shown in that thread) and almost another 2 years on I still haven't had to change it. The misting actually stops any further corrosion. [/url]
