Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Ok, I know this has been discussed before but I think I have something different, I hope. My C4S has developed a strange rattle up front when going over bumps (especially smaller ones), happens on both the up and down (like rattle rattle rarrle rattle). Now for the weird part, it doesn't happen when you first get going, or when your driving, only at low parking lot type speed. Any thoughts?

HRELOGO.jpg?t=1441303038 HRE Wheels have set the standard for all wheel manufacturing in this industry. There are good wheel manufactures, great ones, and then there's HRE Wheels who sit at the top above the rest. Based out of San Diego, CA, HRE Wheels manufacturers wheels in house in their 60,000 square foot plant, and have been producing wheels since 1978. Most of their wheels start at 100lbs discs and then are slowly machined down using precision tools to a wheel that ends up being extremely light (22lbs, give or take depending on sizing and style of wheel). These HRE Wheels will be manufactured from Aerospace-grade 6061-T6 Forged Aluminum for a high strength to weight ratio. Forged inside the United States, these wheels offer gorgeous and complex designs that can be applied to nearly any car that you desire. HRE is known for having amazing finishes, but I personally have a true love for their hand brushed wheels with either a standard clear coat, or a tinted clear coat to give you a more aggressive look. Each wheel that is brushed takes 3-4 hours of labor PER wheel, and powdercoating is done in house to maintain HRE's suburb high demand for quality. Two-Tone finishes are available, as well as pinstriping as well. Bespoke options including custom finishes, custom machining or engraving are also an option which is to be determined by HRE depending on the difficulty. Quote: +1 It sounds like your strut mounts and strut bearings need to be replaced. I had mine replaced back in January of 2011 for similar symptoms at 96,587 miles. I had the work done at a Porsche dealer. The total with parts and labor was: $1,424.36.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'll check it out, I looked at it yesterday and there was no sign of wear anywhere, even the bearing looked nice and intact. I'll pull the cap off later to see if the top nut may be loose. But you know, the noise sounds lower and closer to the front of the car.

POST 7Original post

I had a very similar problem, but it was so outlandish that I don't think it is the same issue for you. Both my front a-arm bolts had rattled and fallen off. The a-arm is still held on by the rear bolts, but this caused significant rattling while going over bumps as well as steering wheel shake while slowing/braking.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I went home at lunch and looked at the struts from the underneath, and everything looks good, in fact almost new! In fact the strut stop, stop plate, and bellows all looked new as well. I mean no dirt and still had writhing on them. I'll have to look at the sway bars etc..

POST 9Original post

This probably isn't it, but you haven't recently put anything in the trunk up there that might be moving around when you hit bumps have you? Hope you get it sorted out soon! Swaff

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No, but this did cross my mind as well, I'll take the little tool bag out and see. Hey, you never know! Quote:

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok, well I looked at the struts up and down and everything seems normal, no cracked bearing all tight, in fact as I mentioned before, they almost look ner, no rust to signs of warn rubber....So, it must be something else, like sway bar, drop link, I'll keep looking.

POST 12Original post

On my ex C2, it was the drop links. They looked fine, but after changing them, the noise went away.

Ok, thanks. I think I'm off to the shop and let them have a look see. The strange thing is you don't hear it until the car's been driven a while, like going out of the neighborhood no noise, returning you hear it, and never while driving around at normal speeds..????? Quote:

POST 16Original post

Did you get a prognosis from the shop yet? Swaff

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 3842871

No, I've been lazy over the last couple of days I'll do it in short time though. I'll let you know what I find out. Quote:

POST 18Original post

Mine is doing a similar thing...went today and got it looked at. Looks like a right front sway bar link. With it up on the lift, putting pressure on the sway bar link with my hands/arms, I could make it make the same noise I hear over those small little bumps. Probably will replace both at some point sooner than later. Let me know when you find out what it is on your end. Swaff

POST 19Original post

Did you figure out what it was? I ordered a L and R droplink from Pelican for about $50 each and installed them both today. Was the first time I have ever done this, and it took me about an hour and a half for the first one and then 45 minutes for the second one. No more rattle on the front end, and I saved about $150-$250 depending on which shop I could have taken it to (got a few different quotes before deciding to do it myself). Swaff
