Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

i would get it checked asap for faults in memory and get it checked for leaks, also the fluid itself needs checking colour wise so really i would get it into either indy or opc asap
Leading evidence: 'Replace gear 3rd' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check asap' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The best advice I can give you is to check the fluid level and for error codes which will greatly help diagnose the problem.

Suggestion
As Porscheuro suggests it may be worth checking fluid levels, but low fluid levels tend to create a problem with the change itself rather than slippage during drive uptake.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

My recommendation is to get this looked at asap as the box may be running or beginning to run on the TC continuously or near continuously which is not designed to do and will lead to overheating which will cause damage to your TC seals etc.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey Folks,
Looking for some help "again".
Car 2003 996 turbo (tiptronic)
I was driving home tonight and when the car changed gear 3rd to 4th it seemed like the clutch started to slip, But just for a second . Then it would bit again drive normally.
I slowed down and tried all gear changes in auto and again it hapopened when changing from 3rd to 4th. I repeated it in manual and it still happens if you keep you foot on the throttle...
Its now happening all the time between 3rd and 4th no other changes are effected, and is between 500 - 1000 revs and grips & pulls again and drives perfect. both slow and fast...
Does any of you guys know where i could start to try and diagnose the peroblem?? and just hoping the clutch or tip box is nt on its way out!!!
Thanks guys
you dont have a clutch as such you have a torque convertor which if you get low fluid level on the box you get lack of drive as there isnt enough fluid in the box to do what is required...
i would get it checked asap for faults in memory and get it checked for leaks, also the fluid itself needs checking colour wise so really i would get it into either indy or opc asap
Hi Crazy C,
I had the same problem with my Tip when on holiday 6 months ago. Unfortunately, if it is the same problem as mine, it will progressively get worse. I have done a little research into this, though don't claim in any way to be an authority.
As you imply, the Tip box has a torque convertor clutch (TCC) which is activated at speeds above around 16 mph. After this speed, the clutch engages and the drive is effectively locked like a manual (except during gearchanges). The Torque Convertor (TC) is reactivated below 16 mph when the clutch disengages.
It sounds like an early stage of the clutch slipping/malfunction. In my case slippage started, like yours, in the higher gears and during gearchanges in the upper gears. My recommendation is to get this looked at asap as the box may be running or beginning to run on the TC continuously or near continuously which is not designed to do and will lead to overheating which will cause damage to your TC seals etc.
As Porscheuro suggests it may be worth checking fluid levels, but low fluid levels tend to create a problem with the change itself rather than slippage during drive uptake.
I took my car to an indy to look for error codes and in my case there were none. If the TCC actuator is malfunctioning, this should show up. In my case the fault looks like mechanical ie the clutch itself, so the box is currently out for refurbishment at a specialist.
I'm disappointed with my malfunction as I thought these boxes were pretty reliable my box has done around 60k miles. The best advice I can give you is to check the fluid level and for error codes which will greatly help diagnose the problem.
Hope this helps.
