I used a little bit of Blue Magic metal polish on it, and it looks better than brand new, with a highly polished, chrome-like finish.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Got this tip at Wal-Mart yesterday. At a length of 8.5", I suspected that it would stick too far out. For $12, I figured it was worth trying it out. I thought I would share the pictures just for fun. Needless to say that the stock tip is back on the car now.
Actually, I like it! There is really only one pipe sticking out from the muffler, so if one puts something on that makes it look like two pipes, doesn't that meet the definition of a "poser"? I sorta thought that the fake "two piper" that the CS comes with is kinda tacky-really not like Porsche to do this sort of thing at all. I might do this myself!
All of the aftermarket tips I've been able to find are 9" or longer, which is 3" or more too long for the Cayman/Boxster. I think it's the only reason why Porsche can get away with charging $300+ for their
exhaust
tips. Powerflow has a bunch of nice designs, but they're all 10"+ in length.
Your best bet if you don't want to pay Porsche's extortion rates for sport
exhaust
tips is to keep an eye out for one on Ebay or Cayman Club classifieds (or maybe check with Porsche dismantlers). I recently picked up a used Boxster S dual
exhaust
tip for my Base Boxster for $65. I totally lucked out, as getting the part from Porsche would have cost $327. I used a little bit of Blue Magic metal polish on it, and it looks better than brand new, with a highly polished, chrome-like finish.
How far will that thing throw a grapefruit?! Now all you need is an unpainted fiberglass aero kit and a big wing on the back and you're good to go!!
Put it on a bandsaw and take an inch or two off. Then finish off the end with a polisher, since it's stainless steel anyway and won't rust.
What really looks bad, imo, is when someone puts a Porsche one on for over $300!
If this came from Porsche they'd still overcharge and tell you the extra length is in honour of the Porsche RSK (which hung out about, what, a foot?!) Then some of the members of the CC would go gaga and tell you it's enough to issue a new model for!
While I'm not a huge fan of the look, I have a hard time figuring out why some people are bashing this....If it's $12 or $1200 and if it comes from Porsche or the dollar store....shouldn't this conversation be about the look and nothing else? Ease up boys.
How do you get the tip on and off so easily, do you have a weld gun in your garage or something? I want to try out the Hamann
exhaust
tip for the LP640, it's 120mm X 2.
Maybe if he put a Lacoste 'gator' on it and said it was $500 you'd buy it? I remember when I used to be impressed with brand names too just because.......
Did you do a before and after dyno run?
I bet that thing is good for at least 27 hp. Think about it. Porsche put that poser dual tip on the
Cayman S
intentionally to hold it back. That bar in the middle that cuts the opening into two chambers actually causes insane turbulance, which robs power.
Think about it. You don't see that tip on the 997S, and it has 355 hp..... The Cayman 2.7 makes 91 hp/liter with a single opening in the tip. The S, with the dual tip makes only 87 hp/liter. We might be onto something here.....
Haha..it's funny how people make fun about Walmart. I believe most people owning
Caymans
(including me) are not "set-for-life". Most of us still get our paychecks by brown-nosing in our jobs and we pray that the jobs will still be there tomorrow. So...just because you made a stretch on a car loan and brought home a fancy Cayman doesn't mean you can't be seen shopping at Walmart.
It's not like I'm too good for Wal-Mart.
Yeah - I have a Cayman. This is because I like to buy quality things, even if I have to pay up a bit for them.
Don't make it sound like the items at Wal-Mart are the same as everywhere else, just cheaper and we're not shopping there since we have Porsches. Wal-Mart is basically a junk store. Pretty much everything they sell is lower quality than you'll find other places (with the exception of 'commoditized' items like XBox360 and the like). Even stuff you THINK is the same everywhere, isn't. Like a
Sony
DVD player. Try to look up the model number of the nice, cheap DVD player they sell at Wal-Mart. Available only at Wal-Mart. I'm pretty sure
Sony
isn't building 'extra-good' players for Wal-Mart either.
It's not like I won't shop there though. I don't always NEED quality, so if I need a couple of ratchet straps for something non-critical, I'll go there and pay less for them. (However, the shopping experience really makes me question the savings).
/rant off - sorry
Check out walmart for
mobil 1
. I recently bought 6 quart containers of 15-50 for my 87 911 and paid only $25.99, thats 4.33 per quart!! Oh yeah, the most difficult part of the excursion was finding a safe spot on the lot to park the car.
