I've not had the car long and so far changed the rear discs and pads, and taken off the bumper to fit the mesh grills.

Sounds like its the job for an independant - GT One in Chertsey is probably the closest and i understand they have a good reputation.

However having done a search of the forums, there doesn't seem to be a step by step guide to replacing the side rads and I'm now thinking that it might be wiser to leave it to a professional.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Dear All,
My 996 Turbo has a coolant leak from the nearside rad so i'm expecting a new rad is needed.
I've not had the car long and so far changed the rear discs and pads, and taken off the bumper to fit the mesh grills. So i'm getting familiar with the car and consider myself reasonably able at DIY jobs.
However having done a search of the forums, there doesn't seem to be a step by step guide to replacing the side rads and I'm now thinking that it might be wiser to leave it to a professional.
Can anyone help explain or direct me to a guide? Or how much am I in for if I take it to an indipendent garage?
Thanks
Ollie
Although I used to do all my own maintenance on my rally cars years ago, I've never been brave enough (or had the time) to mess about with my 911s...
However, I did consider changing rads myself, until I was warned what a PITA it is bleeding the system... There are about 20 litres of coolant in a Turbo and it is physically impossible to get the water pump further away from the rads (without mounting it on the outside of the rear bumper) so I decided that was best left to the pros...
Don't know where you are, but I use ProMax Motorsport (Aylesbury / Milton Keynes / Buckingham area), who are very reasonable with their charges and do a bloody good job, in my experience...

Thanks for the replies.
ProMax is a bit far away to travel back and forth (I'm West London / Surrey borders) after leaving it with them but thanks for the information. Sounds like its the job for an independant - GT One in Chertsey is probably the closest and i understand they have a good reputation.
Better check my credit card limit!
@Ollie1979. Not sure if this helps but I recently had my centre rad replaced at JAZ in Wembley. Rad was £316, coolant £24 and labour £150. Then plus VAT.
