The problem is the loom will not be in the car, so not just a case of fitting a dash button.

Assuming only muffler hardware currently fitted (no wiring in to cabin), technically may be as low as 3 hours, however official book time is AFAIK 6 hours at an OPC.

Just purchasing a 2001 996 which had the PSE retro fitted a few years back minus the switch (Which is still with the car in its box).

Suggestion

I suspect that if it's not already been wired up to behind the dash, it might be quite a time-consuming job, so £££ (i.e not just as simple as fitting the switch and wiring up using existing connections).

Having had it fitted, I rarely use the switch.

Suggestion

Sorry not fitted one myself (mine was factory-fitted from new) but I concur with lexy - I only ever use the switch for early morning starts (tend to leave for work about 06:30 most days) out of consideration for the neighbours.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just purchasing a 2001 996 which had the PSE retro fitted a few years back minus the switch (Which is still with the car in its box). I imagine fitting of this to be a fairly time consuming job but has anyone done it ? Any pointers please ? I would like to fit just for those early morning garage starts !

POST 2Original post

All I know is that when the OPC fitted mine last year (inc switch) they said the switch took longer than the exhaust. Having had it fitted, I rarely use the switch. 0530 departures from home and passing the odd horse are about it. Cheers

POST 3Original post

Sorry not fitted one myself (mine was factory-fitted from new) but I concur with lexy - I only ever use the switch for early morning starts (tend to leave for work about 06:30 most days) out of consideration for the neighbours. At all other times, it's on! I suspect that if it's not already been wired up to behind the dash, it might be quite a time-consuming job, so £££ (i.e not just as simple as fitting the switch and wiring up using existing connections). I'm not sure how much wiring is involved in the PSE set-up; we need GT4 or Richard H who will probably already have the wiring diagrams in pdf format!! Does your PSE have the cut-out between 30-45ish mph, i.e. it's an official Porsche exhaust and the valves are functioning ok, it's just the switch you need fitting? You might need to weigh up cost vs just how much you actually want it... :?:

POST 4Original post

Estimates vary on the labour time actually required to retro-fit the switch. Assuming only muffler hardware currently fitted (no wiring in to cabin), technically may be as low as 3 hours, however official book time is AFAIK 6 hours at an OPC. (600 labour units). The problem is the loom will not be in the car, so not just a case of fitting a dash button. The vacuum actuators need to plumbed into the a vacuum line, the actuator cabling (trigger) needs to wired from the engine compartment, through the rear bulkhead via DME space, forward to the front relay carrier, fitting new "Abgasklappen" relay (and speed signal bridge as appropriate), cabling to dash/centre console and finally a new toggle switch. So pipe/cabling/relay/switch + misc hardware and the circa 6 hours of labour means OPC price will probably be £1000+
