Then when they did the test ride on smooth surface and the car squeaked like hell, the tech was grimacing - "that is AWFUL!" Needless to say, some teflon tape on cross-bar #2 eliminated all the noise.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just took my creaky, squeeky '00 996 cab in to be silenced under warranty. I wasn't hopeful that my bag of bolts/rattles and groans could be cured but, amazingly, my dealer killed EVERY SINGLE murmur from my softtop, dash and door panels. Amazing! I didn't think it could be done. As much as I dislike my local Porsche dealer, Sunset in Portland (their sales dept sucks, big time!!), I have to give the Porsche techs credit where it is due. Simply an amazing fix - I'm in Porsche heaven again. So, the moral of my story is - if your cab is noisy, it really is worth getting Porsche to live up to their warranty and fix it. It can be done! Even better, it was free! Graham and his non-squeeky cab!

POST 2Original post

Same here Graham, my dealer was very skeptical when I told him the top squeaked- on the lines of "well, you need to realize these cars will make some noise." Then when they did the test ride on smooth surface and the car squeaked like hell, the tech was grimacing - "that is AWFUL!" Needless to say, some teflon tape on cross-bar #2 eliminated all the noise. I too am very, very happy. Sportscar or not, it should not squeak like a 73 Pinto. Eugene

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Same problem area for me too - it was the cross-bar behind your head, in my case on the passenger side. I also had an insulation problem around the speaker on the drivers side of the dash that rapidly got terrible. All gone now. I also recommend the BMW rubber treatment too - this works a treat. Graham

POST 4Original post

eclou: I'm glad to see you got your squeak fixed. Was the information I sent regarding my experience at all helpful?

POST 5Original post

Speed, absolutely. The w/o you posted was exactly what they did for me. Thanks again! Eugene
