Hi, Has anyone ever used Motor easy for warranty renewal. My warranty is up next month and the quote is about 30% less than official Porsche warranty but is it really worth the risk?

The best warranty, and the only one that 'adds value', is the Official Porsche Warranty - unless your car is modified or you have it maintained outside the network.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does anyone know of a warranty worth getting for a modified car. Id like to remap, new exhaust and intake but dont want to run the risk of no warranty on a 2012 car.

Hello, Found an old post but any views on motoreasy warranty? I have just bought a 2014 981 CS with 2 OPC stamps and 1 Cridfords so apparently can’t buy an OPC warranty. Feedback greatly appreciated 😀

ChrisC said: Hello, Found an old post but any views on motoreasy warranty? I have just bought a 2014 981 CS with 2 OPC stamps and 1 Cridfords so apparently can’t buy an OPC warranty. Feedback greatly appreciated ?? Porsche warranty is best. It has to pass the 111 Point check and any new owner has to have had it registered on the V5 in their name for 3 months before they can apply. However, the current/previous registered owner still on the V5 could apply now. Cridford service doesn’t affect this.

POST 7Original post

Spoke with OPC and they say it needs to be re 6 year serviced by them at £975, then I can do the 111 check and all going well, I can buy the Approved warranty. Crazy, but I get it. Question about extended warranty then, what’s the best alternative? Any recommendations? Chris

POST 8Original post

Back up! I have been investigating warranty options outside of OPC for a number of reasons. MotorEasy seem to be the best company available. This is a for a plan b warranty. Key points to consider are: - The claim limit is the value of the car. - The PDK gearbox is covered. - Dynamic engine mounts are not covered once the car is over 5 years old. - The car will require a 'health check' showing is is mechanically sound. - It is worth bumping the labour rate to £200 as you can use OPC. This is 200 + VAT so 240. - If you don't want 'age contribution' (you pay more for every year the car gets older) to be a factor they can remove this and then 100% of parts and labour are covered but the cost of the policy goes up slightly. - Investigations are covered IF the offending failure is covered. If the offending failure is not covered then any work is down to the claimant to cover. I need to ponder on this and excluding the dynamic mounts is a frustrations. For my 2013, Cayman s 981 the monthly cost is £84/month. Edited by stuno1 on Friday 17th December 14:47

POST 9Original post

Third party warranty doesn’t always have a great reputation on here. It may have been deleted but a certain M5 engine replacement case thread is why I, and possibly many on ph would never buy them… “Guarantee straight” absolutely criminal in that particular case… Every excuse under the sun used to avoid paying…

POST 10Original post

Don’t disagree with that but a few Porsche owners have one with this company. Ultimately as you say the real test when you make a claim. I have specifically enquired as to the known failure points and asked if the pdk box is leaking oil is the warranty covered, response was that if the box has to be removed to be repaired and the component at fault is covered all work and parts are covered. I think this is where knowing the restrictions and having a friendly garage helps. Edited by stuno1 on Saturday 18th December 08:20

POST 11Original post

Is the car modified? At £2k for 2 years on that programme, you can cover the cost of the 111 check and OPC warranty.. Sorry if I missed anything about non-OPC service history or modifications.

POST 12Original post

Royal Jelly said: Is the car modified? At £2k for 2 years on that programme, you can cover the cost of the 111 check and OPC warranty.. Sorry if I missed anything about non-OPC service history or modifications. Sadly that’s it. I just bought the car and it had a service at an Indy last month so not due for 2 years now. Also it has zunsport grilles and both Colchester and east london have said they would fail the 111 point check.

POST 13Original post

Mine was warrantied with rad grilles…FWIW To be frank, I would just keep a slush fund. A grand a year to exclude the only thing you’re reasonably likely to face (the dynamic transmission mounts) doesn’t sound great to me. The little things can be sorted easily and cheaply via an indy if they come up, and the PDK box stories, while out there, are on a very low number of cars. The 981 has proven itself as being pretty reliable.

POST 14Original post

I don’t disagree. With all the research I have done PDK failures seem very very rare and to be honest thats the main reason I am considering the warranty. If they include the dynamic mounts I’ll probably do it as I am expecting them to fail. If they both go in three years that’s the warranty paid for. Also, other cover is helpful to have.

POST 15Original post

Royal Jelly said: Mine was warrantied with rad grilles…FWIW A grand a year Porsche warranty for one year was £660. If you’re keeping it the three year deal was pretty good value imo.

If you’re keeping it the three year deal was pretty good value imo. 660? That must be a ex-VAT. A 981 extended 2 year was 1600ish. The grand a year I mentioned was the OP’s Motoreasy one. Doesn’t seem great to me, as it’s highly likely to not need anything other than tranny mounts which are specifically excluded. I don’t disagree that the OPC warranty has its merits. It’s coverage is excellent and it’s comfort for the owner. The motoreasy doesn’t sit as well because of that one exclusion. Still, these products make money for the providers, as such I’d take my chances on my own. I say this with 9 months of warranty remaining - I won’t bother renewing.. A PDK 991.1 GT3 with its chocolate engine, sure, but a 981 is a different category altogether.

Sounds like a good call. They’re not a wear & tear failure item. They fail at entirely random intervals… One of the ones on mine failed at 12k, I’ve heard of them failing at 4K and 75k so it’s hard to justify it as general wear. It’s a faulty part, and by all accounts, not fixed yet even on the 718…

Insurance is VAT exempt usually, the £660 I had was all in for one year. There was £175 quoted on top for Porsche Assist. I have to say I thought all the warranty prices were fixed. ETA: I think it was £1,190 for the two year option excluding Porsche Assist. That was a good deal - it’s a lot more now. The 1600ish for 2 years excludes Porsche Assist, too. It’s a 2-fold expense, too. You’re spending 800 a year plus 850-1200 for an OPC service every two years. If nothing goes wrong, 1300-odd a year all-in. A reputable indy will do the services for 4-600, so without the warranty you’re over a grand up each year. I’m happy to spend money, but realistically I’m better off going it alone.. As I mentioned, mine is warrantied until Sep, which is nice, but the freedom to use some very well-regarded specialists for a far lower price (and they’re far more local) is compelling. Only oil & filter replacement and fluids check. Probably unnecessary but I live overseas so my car spends plenty of time locked in storage, so fresh oil (void of water) can only be a good thing. It had a once over to make sure everything else was in good shape, too. A tyre was old and beginning to crack (bizarrely Cridfords changed 3 of the 4 tires when the previous owner purchased it). The 4th was showing its age. Thankfully a PHer helped me source one from the same period as the other 3.

stuno1 said: LamedonM said: When the warranty says maximum payable is the cost price of the car. Is the cost price when new or the amount the current owner bought it used? That is really hard to take if one is paying £85 x12 month = £1020 plus £250 excess (for BMW M6) and the car (unlike Porsche cars) does depreciate

POST 26Original post

Ok. All clarified and it does indeed cover all gearbox components including sensors, it covers gear box oil leaks as mentioned earlier and I get up to 1k for engine mount failures, that’s not per claim it’s total. Paying upfront I ended up getting the policy for £822 per year. I also went for the £200 (£240 with bay) per hour labour charge and choosing a garage of my choice for any work.  Reasonable I think!

I believe the warranty company are a sponsor of PH/advertise with them so it could end up with the thread being deleted or locked. If you search Lord Flasheart M5 engine in Google you will probably find a link to the M5board website. They haven’t deleted his thread there. Also there is this thread https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... that came about after the legal outcome. I suppose PH didn’t pull this one as it was post a legal jusdgement so was out in the public domain. Ultimately lordflasheart had to sign an NDA as part of the settlement. That thread was enough to convince me never to buy a warranty again. I just run a slush fund, my calculations have me around £8k up over a 3 year period.
