I think that only the 225, 265, & 285's are; and 2) if you're going to replace that one rear tire that blistered, you should replace BOTH rear tires.

Also, since these tires S U C K when they get hot (ie: you drive very aggressively = they get very slick), I want to line up some real tires and use the old (700 miles) Contis for DEs, etc until they are used up.

Armando (and others) have talked about using 245s, but I still dunno if I want to go that big up front.

Also, I think I'm going to use the P-Zero fronts I have on my old rims if they don't sell and back matching rears.

However, anything requiring more heated use will NOT be Contis.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I need a replacement sportcontact 2 and was wondering if ALL of these tires (ie: the 285-30-18 for sale on Tire Rack) are N2s since it needs to match the other ones still on the car.
Also, since these tires S U C K when they get hot (ie: you drive very aggressively = they get very slick), I want to line up some real tires and use the old (700 miles) Contis for DEs, etc until they are used up. For the new tires, what size 235s and/or 245s-18" would I put on the front not to screw up the speedo/odom given the 225-40-18 that came on it?
TIA
The Conti SportContact 2s at TireRack are N2s.
225-40-18 can be substituted for either 235-35-18 or 235-40-18. They are both VERY close to the 225 size height wise, but the 40 is closer. Didn't ask about 245s.
Hey Ben,
A couple of things here: 1) the 235's and the 245's are probably NOT N2's. I think that only the 225, 265, & 285's are; and 2) if you're going to replace that one rear tire that blistered, you should replace BOTH rear tires. You don't want one full tread-depth tire on one side, and one that's mostly wore out on the other side.
Since you're not happy with those tires, maybe you should just ditch them all, and buy four new tires? You might like

Hi DJ:
"You don't want one full tread-depth tire on one side, and one that's mostly wore out on the other side."
The tires have less than 1k miles on them (closer to 700). The one rear that is fine is not worn in the same way (hardly worn at all) as the bad one. Remember the sliding, etc affected the wear on the outter edge of the driver's side (bad tire) not the passenger side.
Think I'm going to replace the one and use them for street driving. However, anything requiring more heated use will NOT be Contis.
Also, I think I'm going to use the P-Zero fronts I have on my old rims if they don't sell and back matching rears. When either of these sets (two sets of rims worth), I'll get real tires - though I know you like those P-Zeros so I might stick with them.
Are those BF Goodrich ones the ones Bret is using? They certainly seem interesting.
Thanks
The sliding effected both tires, it's just that it wore the left tire more than the right. I've never had any luck just replacing one tire. It makes the car handle funny. You may or may not notice it, but I hated it when I tried it.
Yes.
I'm assuming that your front wheels are 8.0" wide. If so, either tire will (supposedly) work. I don't like the way that a 245 fits on an 8" wheel, but I've done it, and so have many others, and it seems to work just fine.

I'll try it and if it sucks, I'll get the other.
Yes, the fronts are 8". Armando (and others) have talked about using 245s, but I still dunno if I want to go that big up front. What are your fronts? (then again though yours is an S with a wider front stance and probably wider front rims, no?)
"I don't like the way that a 245 fits on an 8" wheel"
In what ways don't you like the "fit"?
My front's are 265/35's on 9.5" wheels. Those won't fit on your car.
Every tire size has a "range" of wheel sizes on which it will fit. Within that range is an "optimal" wheel width on which that particular sized tire will work best. For a 245, the "best" size wheel is 8.5". The whole process of determining the "best" wheel size is a little more complicated, and involves the ratio of the tire width to the wheel width. Getting the tire-to-wheel width ratio the same front to rear is also important.
8.0" = 203mm
8.5" = 216mm
10" = 254mm
8" wheel, 225 tire: 203/225 = 90%
8" wheel, 245 tire: 203/245 = 83%
8.5" wheel, 245 tire: 216/245 = 88%
10" wheel, 285 tire: 254/285 = 89%
87% to 92% are good fits.
My opinion; others will definitely disagree.
235 on 8" would be ok, but I don't think you'd really gain anything you could feel over a 225. If there was a specific tire you wanted to run that was available in 235 but not 225, then I would do it. Just don't think that you can go from a 225 to a 235, and all of a sudden your car will handle great. It will be at best a one or two percent improvement. At best...
No, the stock wheel widths are 8" & 10". That's the biggest that would fit under the stock (heavily rolled) fenders. Also, without coilovers, and 2.25" springs, they wouldn't fit.
I know I belong in (M)P, I just don't want to get bumped into V2 because of a screw-up in the rule book.
Yep, that my have fun, ride em cowboy style is not the fastest way around the track (or best way to finish with tires) is the #1 thing I learned this weekend. I'll have to grow up if I'm going to get times like you posted!
