Tip....only put a couple of the fuzzy torx screws back in and test the latch to make sure it doesn't pop off again the first time you pull the latch!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Something happened when I went to open my glovebox and now it won't open. The glovebox drops a miniscule amount and the handle just dangles like it's not connected to anything. If I push the glovebox closed, something clicks and the handle feels normal. I found a diagram online and it appears there is a latch on each side and I think the left side does unlatch. I found a msg where a Cayenne owner used a pick through a hole above the latch to manually unlatch the side; is there a similar access hole on the 987.1 ? I thought removing the cupholders might help, but I don't think that's possible without opening the glovebox. Help! edit: I should also mention that when I was jiggling the handle, a small black piece of rubber came out. It has a slit in it like it slips over something; at first I thought it was a nose pad from my sunglasses.

POST 2Original post

You can take interior parts around the glovebox off but I'm not sure they will give you the access you need, it may be simpler to try and get a tool in from any opening you have to see if you can unlatch whatever is caught/jammed, otherwise it is a pain to remove a bunch of interior parts (there are instructions in the Articles section) so it depends on whether you want to go through that or take it to the dealer instead.

POST 3Original post

When the center trim wouldn’t open the glovebox, I would pull on the side edge of the cupholder trim and push less on the center trim at the same time.

POST 4Original post

remove cup holder, radio console side, sides by door and the soft footwell/AC cover. Remove 8-10 torx screws to remove box. There are two square access ports on the sides of the box to press latches with screw driver blade. It's partially covered. Remove fuzzy torx screws to remove glve box cover (leather/vinyl). Dont worry about the fuzz. This exposes the latch mechanism. You may not need to do anything other than hold the latches in and put the leather/vinyl front back on to put the lever under the actuators. Harder to explain, easier to figure out. No more than 20 minutes or so.

POST 5Original post

Thanks for jumping in, I looked at my box today and as going to chime in with a more helpful response but you beat me to it, thanks again for helping!

POST 6Original post

Thanks for the all of the responses. Now that I have some guidance, I will start taking it apart this weekend. Hopefully I will report back with good news. Edit: Just looking at pics and procedures online....am I going to be able to remove the two screws holding the cupholder if I can't open the glovebox?

POST 7Original post

Open the cup holder and look up towards roof. Not an issue. The two shiny screws are the only socket head(allen) that you'll remove. I just did this last week as I am covering the leather with Alcantara. Seaching for those little torx screws to remove interior parts can be a challenge. Tip....only put a couple of the fuzzy torx screws back in and test the latch to make sure it doesn't pop off again the first time you pull the latch! One corner of my latch was rounded. Couldn't tell if it was like that from the factory. Due to the extra layer of Alcantara, I needed to shim out the lever that pulls in the latches with a washer.
