Long time lurker, first time posting. Up until now, all of my questions had been answered via the search button.
I have an 08 Cayman S, it has many modifications to help with DE’s but most of its time is spent on the street. After more than a year of ownership, I finally was able to get the car out on the track, Texas World Speedway with PCA. A week prior to the event, I flushed the fluid with Motul rbf600 and swapped in new PFC 08’s (running OEM pads on the street). This was my first DE in many years (twin three year girls lol).
My car is having braking issues, ABS is not functioning (discovered by a full smokey lock up during the braking school) along with PSM (I assume) - but the dash light never came on. I checked all of the wheel speed sensors (cleaned connections etc), took the pads out, checked that everything was free and spinning, reset the ecu and still nothing. It was fully locking up, I was doing my best to threshold brake but still I opted to take the car off of the track. Lots of older cars don't have ABS but my confidence in the entire braking system was shot. I also suspect that this problem may have been there for a while as I haven’t had to brake hard enough on the street to engage ABS since owning the car.
A few bullets describing things:
· Brakes perform perfectly but lock up
· No dash light
· Stock tune - sport chrono
· I tried resetting the ECU, same result
· Swapped OEM pads back on, same result
· Physically inspected, checked connections on all 4 wheel speed sensors
· Zip tied the pad wear indicators out of the way (I check my pads regularly) months ago.
· Stainless steel lines, otherwise the brake system is stock
· When performing the flush, was careful, used Motive (dry method). Brake pedal feels solid, not mushy.
Next step is to take it in to the shop, I would like to at least have an idea of what the culprit may be before taking it in. Hoping that I'm missing something obvious...
Thanks!
If you have a Durametric, try testing/cycling the anti-lock pumps. You should be able to hear them.
I do not have a Durametric. Great idea though.
