This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

Sounds about right to me, also quite normal for car tickover to alter with the extra strain put on it by running the AC pump

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I am new to the 996 world. I went to see a really nice 996 today. At idle (650 rpm) there was a tendency for the car to rock from side to side. This settled when the air condition was turned on. Is this normal? What could it be? Thank you Chris

POST 3Original post

the car automatically increases the engine speed when the aircon is switched on to compensate for the considerable power drain and to avoid stalling. At the lower non aircon idle speed the car may well seem a little less smooth....mine does.

POST 4Original post

Same here, as I normally have the aircon on, it idles about 750 TB

POST 5Original post

Really, given our little Fiat 500 has aircon and anything but considerable power output, why is the 911's aircon so much harder to drive?

POST 6Original post

Really!!??? I can't say I've ever noticed any 'rocking' on my 4S - except when I'm singing her to sleep with her favourite blankey!!

POST 7Original post

Spectaluk, Mine idles at around 650rpm which I thought was low, however after having the OPC look over it for two hours on Saturday (only went in to have a key coded) the tech (who owed my wife a favour NO NOT WHAT YOU THINK she's in the motortrade and got him a job ect ect) gave the car a 111 point check and found 111 things wrong....non of which was the tickover He pointed out that there had only been 258 over rev incidents. As my knees started to buckle he told me that anything over 5,000 rpm was considered and over rev I thought I'd bought a sports car here... anyway his conclusing don't worry about RMS intershaft just wring it's neck

POST 8Original post

5k is an 'over rev' !!??? I thought the rev limiter was an over rev....!!!??? doh! uh:

POST 9Original post

Me too mate....I've only had the car a month and I think a good 200 of those were down to me

POST 10Original post

lol!! what the hay - they need to be driven....! :thumb:
