I always open/close roof with the engine running - referring to Maxie's point with batteries, does it speed up with the engine running?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 2Original post

Hi Alan - I had a slow running roof on my 996 - a Targa like yours. Quite funny, when I changed the battery (the previous owner had put in a third party battery of some kind) to a Bosch Silver, the roof operated a lot quicker than before. previously it used to get stuck mid-way through its operation but the new battery seemed to cure that. When I tried to sell her to an OPC earlier this year, they still said my roof wasn't retracting fast enough! maybe it was their excuse to give me a rock bottom trade-in. But anyway, test the voltage output of your exisiting battery against what it should be and see if there is a difference. Other than that drop Richard H a pm - he's a wizz on all things 996 (and 7!). ~ Maxie

POST 3Original post

996 Targa Roof Not sure if there is one Indy that's an expert on Targa rooves - Targas are spread fairly thinly troughout the country that even Porsche Centres don't have much experience. Two things though. I always open/close roof with the engine running - referring to Maxie's point with batteries, does it speed up with the engine running? Second, try lubricating regularly the runners/seals with a silicon spray. That tends to help things along and also get rid of squeaks and some rattles! David

POST 4Original post

Re: 996 Targa Roof Yes - I should have mentioned that also. Always operate the roof with the engine running as this will aid the electric motors powering that heavy slab of glass. And also as Winco states, frequently lube all four contact areas (where the sliding glass touches the fixed roof part) with silicone spray or gel. I did this every 3 months but I think every 2 months is even better. ~ Maxie
